What about other kinds of divination - I Ching, tarot, etc.?
I'm working on a project right now that revolves around forms of divination (I will reveal what in particular that is around the beginning of March~) and decided it would be cool to hear y'alls thoughts on these things! I may note my feels later on in the comments or something for those interested, but not now - I don't want anyone to feel nervous or pressured into not sharing because I might have differing opinions. I just want to know your thoughts, whatever they may be :3c

I mean I can be proven wrong about this anyday but either way its not a subject I pay any attention to, I cant guess peoples sign from their personalities or anything like that
I just like having cool stuff associated to my person like constellations or animals
if you accept that future can be divined from astrology then you have to accept all other form of divination
so reductively it says that augury is also proper
which means that sure future is there, in those chicken guts
so i don't buy it, really
There seems to be a buttload of different ways to explain why astrology works the way it does, some may or may not forcibly include other forms of divination, some won't, though - like the definition stating that it's essentially frequencies emitted by celestial bodies influencing life on earth, or another saying that it's patterns that mirror one another. I... UH... can't speak to how chicken guts or burning are explained at all.
But honestly, the sheer number of kinds of divination and the fact that they all tend to be so intimately involved with such human-centric activities (like drinking tea, or having hands, or pretty rocks we like, or looking up) is pretty dang offputting on any form.
I don't work with tarot at all but I-Ching is quite good, and offers nice direct insight into the present and the correct attitude to follow. I consider it complementary to Taoism and that it teaches one how to become more receptive to the Tao.
My personal experience with it has been interesting in that I no longer consult it, because I somehow feel what it will tell me in advance and all readings tell me what I already know.
I also have a relationship built up with my Fairy Oracle deck. I've been told my readings are scarily accurate. XD Muahahahaha! Though it's not so much about the future as getting a read on the current situation and seeing what options can be taken from there. I guess it just more of whether or not the person could see the other options available or not, or had thought about the problem or situation from all angles. *Shrug*
So I agree with danies. No hocuspocus, just (unconscious) choosing.
the other part of tarot card reading is that it relies heavily on the reader's intuition and without that your readings will be skewed. it also relies on energy distribution and how attuned you are to not only the spirit world but also how well you are attuned to your cards.
all and all, yes i believe in astronomy and tarot cards, but horoscopes are particularly not accurate and they are too general. i split atronomy and horoscopes up because there are parts of atronomy that are very accurate, while horoscopes are mostly trash babble. i also can see why people would group them together as well as not believe in one so disregarding the other, because they both use the same "base".
another reason i believe in astronomy and not horoscopes is because of the duality of astronomy and not horoscopes. you have one sign in horoscopes but houses, charts, sun and moon signs that all helps narrow down to an actual personality of a person and not just a general reading for a thousand people.
i hope this all makes sense and helps you out! :3
Thanks!
I also work in buildings in an area that is haunted as fuck. Like, I didn't believe in ghosts, demons, spirits etc in that sense until I spent time in these places, and have seen how they affect other people as well as myself. To that extent, I believe in supernatural things, so I necessarily have to keep an open mind about other kinds of spiritual, astrological, "hocus pocus" kinda things
As I was reading the other comments here I remembered talking to my hubs about horoscopes before, and one thing I did conclude is that people who take the time to make daily activity like reading a horoscope before heading out for the day my experience certain levels of happiness or success because the activity itself, as well as any intentional response to that input, indicates a level of mindfulness or intent about that person's daily conduct - rather than acting fully spontaneously. I think being adherent to religion or any other specific set of principals can have a similar effect :)
That's pretty much how I feel about mysticism and religion - I don't think that what they're about or what claims they make about how the universe works are especially important, I think they're a good tool for coping and feeling more in control in life. A lot about these ideas revolve around explaining things we can't, and simplifying complex questions that can't be made any less complex. Things that give this seemingly blindly confusing and unforgiving universe some stability. Not everyone needs them, but something as simple as a horoscope can relieve some stress in daily decision-making and help reveal what what we'd actually like in a situation, and tarot can offer other perspectives on situations we're in so that we can better understand our feelings and what we need or even force us to face harsher realities. Kind of like writing/drawing prompts: it's way harder to try to become inspired or gain direction from everything in the world all at once, but if you're told to make something with sharks you know at least generally what you're gonna be doing and immediately have a foundation to move from instead of just floating in space, hoping to grab something worthwhile.
