I think a "femboy" is someone who identifies as a boy (or as mostly male) while preferring feminine gender expression (like clothing, demeanor, or whatever else you would define as feminine). I don't think it has anything to do with biology or what's in your pants...

Yeah unfortunatly the definition says on all sites that you have to have male bits, and be biologically male while being very feminine, I believe it should be updated/changed though

Yeah, I'd say it's anyone who identifies as male and presents in a feminine way.
It's not a gender identity per say but it's more of a gender expression.

A girly male, but not a trap. Also more of a fetish tag for booru sites, not really a gender identity. Otherwise you'd just say "I'm a guy that likes dressing girlishly". But that's just my opinion. And opinions are all you're going to get until some official institute or whatever puts a clinical definition in a book.

And even then, people will criticize the clinical definition for being, well, clinical.
In the end it's really just based on social constructs as is gender in general.

I believe that the term could be used for other genders as well. I mean, if generally speaking the term involves one having very feminine mannerisms, it could be used for other genders who identify as male.

Speaking of having feminine mannerisms...I know this might be silly, but I find it hard to bring myself to having feminine mannerisms openly irl. It almost feels like it doesn't come naturally, like I need to force it out first then I feel more relaxed. I want to say I'm just self-conscious, afraid of others passing judgement, and just not really used to it yet, but . . . I don't know, maybe I'm just being hard on myself. lol

Personally I think It's a person who identifies as male/boy can be considered a 'femboi'/'femboy' seeing as it isn't a gender identity in itself, it's more of a way of acting and such. So yeah, any person who identifies as male/masculine that acts with society defined feminine mannerisms.

As long as your gender identity is somewhat male: Male, Genderfluid (Biomale), FtM Transgender; then I think you can be called a femboy. A biological female trying to be a femboy I think is closer to tomboy, imo.
The idea behind the name "femboy" is that, a feminine male. As long as you are a male with feminine qualities (mannerisms, dress, ect.) then you are a femboy.

I do actually agree that you need male genitals to be a femboy... unless you are FtM pre-op, because that's more of a money issue than anything.

i see it as it is defined now almost, a male who crossdress and/or do things to look feminine, but still has the male bits.
It could be a transgender female i suppose, but then the bits should at least be there imo.

Considering it's a portmanteau of 'feminine' and 'boy' I've always seen it as exactly that.

Not saying that is how it should be, simply how I interpret the word.

As an FTM femboy who identifies as male but still loves wearing dresses/feminine clothes, I believe it should be updated. Not doing so just kind of... continues contributing to the idea that people like myself aren't 'really boys', so I can see why some people were bothered by it.

Someone above mentioned it's a combination of 'feminine' and 'boy' as a reasoning to the opposite side of things, but ultimately it does just mean a feminine boy, and FTMs are still boys as much as boys with bits are.

Like I said, pre-op FtM still count's in my eyes since it's really more of a money issue and not your fault you don't have male bits (but want them).

Personally, I think it should just stay the way it is. Ever since being introduced to the term, I've always seen it simply as true males (regardless of age or body type) who are feminine in one of several ways, whether it be in personality, habit, having feminine body types, or dressing in a way that is considered feminine, ect ect.

It wouldn't make sense to start trying to muddle definitions and add things on it just to include females, because, well, then they wouldn't honestly be fem'boy' even if they identify as male. I mean, heck, sometimes I identify as male even though I'm true female, and I don't see the sense to include myself as a femboi since technically I'm a girl. IT doesn't makes sense to me, but I guess I'm one of them out-of-touch sticks-in-the-mud that doesn't get why everyone has to have themselves included in everything. >3>

I think it could include other genders, going off the FtM trans idea as that person would of course identify as male. There are also the femboys like myself and several of my friends who are biologically male and have no plans to physically transition, but we do have female gender identities.

Now the one thing I wouldn't go so far as to say is someone who IS physically transitioning from male to female; pre-op and post-op especially. People doing this are taking hormones for their feminine appearance, growing breasts, and planning on surgery. "True" (for lack of a better word) femboys wouldn't do that as we do still want to stay physically male.

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes or claws saying this, this is simply my point of view.

I plan on taking hormones but not to be a "true" female, as a genderfluid femboy, I just feel uncomfortable in a body this male and want to balance my physical gender appearance. It's kinda hard to explain but I guess the best way is saying I'm MtH (Male to hermaphrodite) but biotech doesn't have the science to make that possible yet.
So yea, I want boobs, but I want to keep my penis and just be seen as both genders.

personally I'd say you'd have to be physically male whether it be natural or artificial so to say. The term is femBOY after all. after that it doesn't really matter what you identify as or what you look like as long as you at least act feminine. One could argue a MtF trans could also be considered a femboy since they were once male. Though I'd personally call them a tomboy then, just like the females that call themselves femboy. in short, it's femboy, not femfem so I'd stick to the old definition but keep it a bit loose for the questionable cases.

I think urban dictionary said it best

"Femboy is slang for a young boy who presents extensive feminine mannerisms and actions often blurring the line between a boy and a girl. Can be confused with a cross dresser, but it usually refers to boys at very young age or in their teens. Commonly used to define gay boys who dress like girls, but some can be straight too."

but I would also add "anyone that claims to be a femboy" because someone that self identifies as one, is as far as I care, after all, who am I to argue?
