Okay, so there have been several occasions where people have approached me about a model train commission. The thing about them is that they do COST MONEY!!! It's not the same thing to ask for a drawing or art piece which, by comparison, takes a lot more time, effort, and sometimes even skill. So when I present the rough numbers for cost it's not surprising they change their minds and run off.
Well, a few weeks ago a guy on FA approached me for a train commission. At first I thought the person wanted and art piece, but it turns out he wanted a model of a Russian Armored Train from a movie called Dr. Zhivago. I broke down some of the numbers and this person was undeterred! And so I've scowered the interwebs, though mostly ebay, for good donor cars and mechanisms. Mostly Thomas The Tank Engine 'toys' from Bachmann as they're fairly inexpensive compared to actual models. And besides, they'd be given such a makeover they won't look anything like the did out of the box!
I've posted some photos recently of the train before I do anything with it. However the links featured below will show the general look the commissioner would like for this project.

It's quite and imposing train, and it gives me the opportunity to model something that isn't exactly American. Pretty cool, don't you think!? ;p
