Looking for Opinions! - Large YCH's, Freebies
9 years ago
Hey guys! I'm looking to hear your input on some things that are coming up soon!
The first thing is I have been come up with concepts for large, multiple character YCH's, I'd safely say they would have 5-10 characters in them and all slots would be sold individually of course.
My first question is concerning "Background Characters" that do and will occur in these. In the larger ych's there's generally gonna be more "main" characters that will be larger/more centered/the focus of the piece, and the BG chars will be more for atmospheric involvement.
I wanted to ask how you guys would prefer to see BG chars be priced: The focus characters in large pieces will be auction style no matter what, but I've got two options for the others.
Option 1. Auction style like the focus characters. They would have very low starting bids, and would all have an auto-buy price, that would also be fairly low, ooorr
Option 2. Flat prices. BG chars will get a pre set price and would be basically comment to claim/first come first serve style. This would probably be a price between the theoretical SB and AB price mentioned above, leaning more towards the AB.
Now, the other thing i'm looking for opinions on... Welp, my next watcher milestone is coming up and I'll be holding something for you guys to get some free stuff as a thank you!
What I was wondering on this was, would you prefer I do this like I've done most of my free art give-aways, by posting a raffle journal with a few fully worked prizes and you'll have an amount of time to enter and so on. OR Would you guys want me to to do something more like a freebie stream on picarto? This would def have to be planned ahead a little more as it would be one day for a few hours, more people would likely be able to get something BUT the trade off is the works will likely only be sketches or colored sketches!
So? Answer away! I wanna know what you guys think! ;D

I'm not sure about the raffle or the stream.
For the artist:
That would be free work with no pay, either way. :(
Depending on how many people can win the raffle, that will probably be less people than the free art stream, but more detailed images. But you may end up with a character you don't like, or somebody that isn't easy to work with.
With the free art stream, more people are likely to show up than usual. This means you would have to work on more artwork than usual if you don't put a limit on the number of people that can get free art during the stream, but the images will be less detailed. With free art comes more characters you don't like and rude people, but it's much easier to turn them down in a free art stream compared to if they won your raffle.
For your watchers:
A raffle means that there will probably be less people getting picked than if you did a stream, but they would get a more detailed drawing.
A free art raffle means that there would likely be more chances for your watchers to get picked, but they would only get a sketch or a colored sketch.
This depends on the number of people you would do art for in the stream, and the number of people that can win the raffle.
Opinion on the large scale YCH ones, I kinda hate them because you have no or little choice of who you're paired with in something. Could be a cool character could be Andy the AIDS anteater with a tricolored head and is 1/2 demon, 1/2 angel, 1/2 koala.
As for auction or buying slots in a picture. Auctioning takes a longer time and you always have the risk of someone winning then not having the funds or bailing at the last second. Buyout slots would give you the money then and there and you don't have to keep track of the auction. Additionally there is less salt with buying slots than with an auction, IMO.
As for free art things, if you want to do that. Why not do a YCH raffle. Draw something you'd like and pick from a pool of characters to throw them in slots.
As for the ych thing, yeah I can understand that, though your opinion sounds a bit more targeted at NSFW large scale ych's haha. Many thanks for the input, there's definitely a lot of stuff you brought up to consider ^^
