Why does a Star Wars character have to be Gay?

(18+) means a journal discusses topics that might offend some readers.
Ok, I hope this doesn't sound homophobic, but since Disney made the new Star Wars movie, now there has to be a Gay character. I never heard it mentioned until now. Why is that?
