Anyone who knows me or has attended my streams is probably familiar with Redneck Heaven, a legendary local bar frequented by myself and MrHappy1987. It is with a heavy heart that I must speak of it's passing into mere mediocrity.
A little while back the state began expanding Highway 35 in our area and the new service-road and exit ramp are much closer to the bar. As a result they opted to move the entrance to the back of the building. At the same time, Happy suspects that the money from the sale of the right-of-way for the roadwork was used to "improve" the bar ... and improve it right out of what it was. The place was originally done up "redneck kitsch", signs and artwork that were very tongue-in-cheek (the faux-windmill in the middle of the bar was festooned with signs that read "No climbing the windmill! That's a dumb redneck!"). The atmosphere was great, the service was great, the girls were pretty and friendly and the food was awesome.
We hadn't been in a while. The last time we went they were starting the renovations and the place was already rather cold and empty feeling, much of the decor had been removed and much of the charm with it. So while Cougr and LisaLynx were here we decided to give it a try, thinking maybe now that the renovations were done it'd be back to what it was. It wasn't. It's just a sports-bar now, with a slightly southern theme; not much atmosphere to speak of, the service was okay, but nothing special. The girls were still pretty but the banter and friendliness was gone. And the food was just okay.
It was like everything had been dialed back, and all the things that made the place fun and awesome weren't there anymore, like the life just got sucked out of the place. We are very bummed, Happy and me, twice-over because now we have to try and find an alternative. Anyone know a good bar/grill in the North Dallas area?

FA+

1. The Hideaway
2. Flying Saucer Draught Emporium
3. Bent Tree Piano Bar & Grill
4. Rack Daddy's
5. The Mucky Duck Bar
any of those pique your interest, at all?
Of all the bars I would expect to see Wolfkidd purely on the basis of name alone, it would be that one.
And now I can't help but think of a bar with the same name, and staffed entirely by doe-girls like Jaydee. XD
Sherlock's over near the AT&T stadium has great reviews and I've been there a couple of times; the food is good and the atmosphere is decent but it's definitely nothing mind-blowing heh. I'll be keeping an eye on this journal though, local suggestions seem pretty hard to come by. :)
around here, the Theater and public library was closed... to make room for a hardware store, and 3 discount stores.

Heck, i miss The Roadhouse Grill, i've been there so many times, i have sat... in every booth and seat there is there. Now, it's a goddamn Tiger Direct electronics store.
I have only been to Northern Dallas once, as I usually visit the local crowd of friends in Fort Worth. I could ask around. My friend Matt took me to a place with a railway theme before I had to dash off to catch my flight at DFW. That's about as close as I've gotten to the local eats for now.
No Sports Bars, right?
I've lurked some PUA and MRA and 'Red Pill' threads and I wonder if it's not Social-Justice Wannabes pressuring management at these kinds of places, but these counter-movements encouraging male customers to get more aggressive with the waitresses and killing the mood.
Which is to say:
I don't think your Star Athelete who fucks all the cheerleaders is going to learn anything new from those sites.
I also don't think, considering those sites use that kind of Alpha star as their gold standard of behavior, that anyone ("beta", "gamma") following their suggestions is going to be worse than what this guy ("Alpha") does naturally. It's just going to be the nerdlinger version of Rambo.
So with these being the case, it was pretty much "there" already and it would be hard to kill the mood as the restaurant was predicated on being able to provide that mood. These places are basically strip-bar-lite, with stricter than strip-bar rules. So I find it unlikely a counter-culture could make it too toxic. They aren't the ones floating petitions to have breastaurants banned.
Really is a shame when a good place loses it's sense of identity.
Despite the influx of dotcom money that's brought in hipster gastropubs and snooty coffee shops, it's still possible to find a few low-key places with good beer and good food around Silicon Valley. I'm hoping that continues to hold true.
(Not to say I don't enjoy hipster gastropubs and snooty coffee shops, but, y'know.)
Then, "Renovations".
Now, it's called "Drafted" and is about as unique, personable, and interesting as a Molson Canadian.
I went once with the new branding, and never will again.
Not everything needs to move forward.
One of the major things that seemed to close bars he had helped was they gave up their identity in order to be more "in fashion".
