Inverse Productivity

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
-William Shakespeare
Sigh...why does it always seem like I'm always most mentally creative when I can't productively channel it, like at work or lying in bed trying to get to sleep, but never when I'm at my computer? And then when I do get something written down? It just doesn't seem to have the same, well, spark that it used to. It just seems to come out flat. I don't know, I just wish I could write with the feeling it has in my head, the way I feel I used to write.
Anyone have any tips for getting out of a rut? Seems I've fallen into a deeper one in the last week or two.

Come to think of it, the times in the past when I did my best writing was back when I was still in high school (writing being something I could do while bored in class that wouldn't get me in trouble with teachers). College and work aren't nearly as full of that kind of downtime and my productivity hasn't been the same since.
Really wish I had ideas for pulling out of a rut, would love to do so myself and would definitely send them your way if I had any.
Yep, that about sums it up. Me though, I pretty much went to school full time with a lot of financial support from my parents. Once I got out of college and entered the workforce, creativity gradually got harder. However, after talking writing craft a bit from another writer here on FA and making my room look less like some rodent's burrow, I think my mood's on the rise again.
