Looks like we have quite a few things in common.
...did I actually have something to say? Well, um. I was stopping by to thank you kindly for the watch. ^^
But now I must ask you a question, otherwise you obviously wouldn't believe that I read the journal: does Denmark count as your neighbouring country? If so, which one of the three you haven't visited?
Anyway, thank you yourself! I wouldn't be watching if you hadn't been nice enough to share your art with the rest of us ^^
And yeah, we consider the Danes our neighbours, considering how much we've been shooting at each other in the past... And the way we have a bridge over there.
The one I never visited is Norway. Granted, I haven't been to mainland Finland since I was two.
I've been to Åland a few times, but that could almost be considered a separate country...
It really doesn't feel like you're abroad when everyone speaks Swedish.
After the fateful decision to put my stuffs online I've never managed to stop it, really. It's just nice to read what other people think about them and get some feedback and all that.
I've heard that Finland-Swedes' Swedish is a bit hard to undrestand for Swedish people (lot of Swedes <<). Or they just have a kind of weird dialect. So, as an expert, what do you think?
And I heard that they want to prohibit Finnish(language) in Åland so I guess that doesn't make them any more Finnish. I figure they'd probably want cut out the island, attach an engine
to it and get the hell away from Finland and its weirdos. :D ...or maybe just become independent.
Over... Here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/237...../#cid:17437092 Not... Entirely worksafe...
And yeah, it's pretty interesting dialect, but it's not more hard to understand for me as a Stockholmer than any number of more internal dialects... Scanian, for example, and the northern dialects, and Småland-ian... All of those are pretty much gibberish to me, if spoken in their purest forms.
And then some parts of Sweden have deviated so far that they pretty much speak their own language.
The fun thing about Sweden-Finnish is that they have a tradition of exchanging certain sounds...
The most classical example is the way they pronounce G like a K and B like a P, which can sound pretty interesting in certain situations.
An old story (untrue, by all accounts) tells of a Sweden-Finnish contractor who was going to help some neighbours out with their bathroom... He met he son of the family and, when asked were he was going, answered "Jak ska hem till din mamma och porra lite i padrummet". Both those P's are supposed to be B's, and the meaning basically goes from DRILLING in the bathroom to "PORNING" in the bathroom.
:P
...
I know what you mean. It's great how you just can't take it for granted that you (me) can undrestand every Finnish dialect in the land of Finns. And if it's hard for the fellow countrymen then how about some newcomer who is just learning the language. There is so many ways to say even "I". Must be a lot of fun. And English, which is such a nice and simple language, damn, those guys in Scotland for example make me feel I don't even speak the language. But still dialects are nice, and I like accents even more.
Ahh, that's is so great. :D It's somewhat same with Estonian and Finnish - they resemble each other a lot even though it's still nearly impossible to undrestand the other language. Anyway, there is this beautiful Estonian poem that is not quite as beautiful in Finnish. It tells about some guy that breaks an eagle's eggs. In Finnish it contains a lot of - excuse my language - dicks, balls (as in testicles), pussies and some raping of dickballs. So yeah. Estonian is such a beautiful language to us.
I shall alert the team at once.
Yeah, dialects are fun... I actually like Scottish pretty much, and Jamaican ^^
And Australian! That's like mutated deranged English crook-language!
That poem is so awesome! And yeah, I've heard about that... One of my old teachers (who is Finnish and teaches Swedish and German... Wtf?) said that he'd been over there, and that he could basically tell someone he was looking for work, and they'd think he was planning a giant wedding...
Also, dammit, reply button fail :P
Yess, Scottish is amazing even though it's kinda hard to undrestand, it's very distinctive. But fun to listen to. I think it's a bit same with the Jamaican dialect but I'm not sure if I remember right. I also like British dialect, it's the US one that is most boring, really. :D The very typical kind of Finnish English accent is a bit terrible. :D (*and then she went through all possible dialects...*)
I'm not surprised that he doesn't teach Finnish, our grammar is straight from hell. :P Once, as a kid, when I was in Estonia with my parents they tried if it was possible to converse in Finnish with a shopkeeper. "Surprisingly" it didn't really work very well.
I just remembered something Estonian that could be a bit funny for the English speakers: 12 months sounds like "cocktastes good". Anyway, it's a really nice (funny) language to listen to, probably not so much for anyone else but the Finns, though.
Yes, the English dialects are fun! The whole upper-class thing, (Stiff upper lip, chaps! Cheerio!) Cockey rhyming slang, all that jazz...
He's probably my favourite teacher ever. Total madman, I'm telling you! Deeply sarcastic, constantly skirting the borders of political correctness... My brother is an '86... This guy used to call his class the Tjernobyl kids ^^ Good times, they were.
There's a similar thing with me and Dutch. Dutch sounds basically a lot like a mutated mix of Swedish and German... And since I understand German fairly well, it's interesting to listen to.
Even though I most often don't understand half of what they're saying.
And then we of course have Norwegian and Danish.
Norwegian mostly isn't that hard, it's similar enough to Swedish to be relatively easily understood.
Danish is an entirely different matter. The Danes have an entirely different rythm and slur to their language, which makes it damned near unintelligible.
I can read it almost no problem, though.
Aw, I'm one of those Tjernobyl kids too. And I was damn close to the thing when it went boom, eastern Finland. Muah. Maybe I have super powers that haven't awaken yet. But yeah, he sounds like a great teacher. Too bad there seems to be so few of the really cool ones. Luckily it's also the same with the scary ones.
Dutch is weird. I don't undrestand a word of it but it's intresting to listen to. And it's suppposed to be a relative of Finnish. Or was it some other language... I think my relationship with Dutch is same as yours with Danish. Just that I can't even read it. ...how many languages do you speak/read anyway?
I suddenly have no idea what Danish sounds like.
And I came up with yet another question: how well you can recognize spoken languages from each other? "Yea, that's definitely Berber and not Russian"-like. Which reminded me of Conan O'Brien when he impersonated Finnish...he was surprisingly good at it, too. Of course it was gibberish but it sounded like Finnish. :D Wonder if there are any language impersonators.
Now I have to listen to AC/DC. :c
The reply button is treacherous.
You have to know where to look. ...Only in my case it was right next door with my best friend of ten years.
Awesome, then you're three years older than me ^^ Which would pretty much fit to this bizarre pattern that seems to be forming concerning people I converse with on FA... Only are you a guy or a girl? I don't seem to have any information on the subject...
And yeah, we got a lot of that shit over here as well... I think there's still an official recommendation concerning how much Swedish reindeer you can safely consume in a year.
I know Swedish, obviously, and the only guy in school who ever was better than me in English was from the US... So go figure. Then I've studied German for five years (middle school to senior high), but I'm still not that good...
I can understand it okay, I just can't find the words.
Lately I've been concidering going into Japanese, but I've got other things to worry about at the moment.
Well, most languages from northern, western and southern Europe are relatively easy to tell apart, and Japanese and Chinese are pretty characteristic... But other than that, it's not easy.
And AC/DC had a concert down in Göteborg just yesterday! Those damned Gothenburgians... Their arena takes more people than ours. But then, like Bruce Dickinson said when Maiden was here last summer - "You know what you have to do! Build a bigger fucking arena!"
Heh, sounds like you got some good luck then. For some reason I've always been surrounded by the less freaky kind. Which is a shame because freaks are much more fun.
That's odd, I haven't heard that we'd have the same consuming recommedation for our reindeers. There is for the fish caught from the Baltic Sea (and especially the Gulf of Finland), though. Do you have it too?
Heh, yeah I don't have much info about the subject. Mayhaps I should have because a lot of people seem to assume that the ones that don't tell their gender are guys. :D So yeah, a girl.
I'm glad that we have to study English from the third grade, Swedish starts from the 7th grade. For some reason a lot of kids around here hate studying Swedish and even despise Swedish people. It's funny how it's such a big competition between Finland and Sweden no matter what they do. Even if Finland loses at something it's still a victory if Sweden loses more. :D
So, last time I've used Swedish was years ago and I've forgotten almost all about it. It's a shame considering that I studied it for four years or so. Guess it would come back if I brushed it up a bit. So just English and Finnish for me for now
Heh, AC/DC was in Helsinki at 17.6. Funny old geezers. And I think Dickinson couldn't have been more right about the arena. :D
Then I have another female Swede who visits this place, but she doesn't really count since I was introduced to her through one of the others...
She's pretty interesting to talk to, though. She's Otherkin, a voreaphile and addicted to... Erotic RP-ing, shall we say?
And yes, we are more fun! It's what I always say.
I don't know if the recommendation has been removed, but i don't think so... We had a lot of radiation fallout in a large area of the northern mountains, and that shit travels up the chain from the ground to the plants and then to the shaggy bastards...
And yeah, pregnant women aren't supposed to eat Baltic fiah, yada yada. But that is a lot about old DDT and heavy metals and whatnot, too. And it doesn't seem to be helping the cod... Even though they're predators.
Heheh, sibling rivalry is fun ^^ What do you guys call it, that weird annual sports show-off between Swedes and Finns? We call it Finnkampen, which seems logical, I suppose... And yeah, I think it's got something to do with Finland having been a part of Sweden at one point... We've got a lot of the same going on with Norway.
Which reminds me, do you guys have any countries that you especially like making fun of? I think I've heard that you focus mainly on Sweden, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly...
The tradition here is jokes about the stupidity of Norwegians :P
Indeed so, but I kind of like our place... I think it's thirty thousand people fits in there, or something like that. Outdoors, really sweet spot. It shouldn't get too big, either. I mean, imagine Rock in Rio. Sure, two hundred and fifty thousannd people singing Fear of the dark sounds REALLY impressive, but I wouldn't want to stand in the sea... Or the ticket line!
Not sure if I know what an Otherkin is, but I think I have a slight idea. But yeah, she must be a really interesting person to talk with. Hehe, I'm I the only one that is interested in the different people? It's just so interesting to hear completely different conceptions of the world. Again, I'ma bit unlucky for not running into the really different kind of people. For example it'd be cool to chat with/know a wiccan. Or maybe a monk of some kind. ...yeah, I'm weird.
And yeah, the Baltic sea is is a bit shitty so no wonder the fish isn't terribly healthy in huge amounts. Who knows if it'll become so eutrophic that we'll finally have a huuuge swamp with some weird mutated critters in it. Wouldn't that be something?
Hehe, I've heard that you have the same thing going on with the Norwegians. Finland doesn't seem to like the Russia all that much but Russians don't seem to like us either so it's good. Then I've heard that Estonians really don't like Finns but no wonder when we just go there for cheap booze. Who wouldn't like louting, drunk Finns, though? <<
Which reminds me of how the government is doing its best to stop Finns from drinking so much. The prices are going up all the time, which really just means that more people are going to Estonia to get huge amounts of booze and therefore drink more. Meanwhile the goverment is happy looking at the statistics that tell how Finns "drink less". A bit naïve there, are we?
So, Finns like(love) Estonia. A love hate relationship?
But anyway, I think you must be our favourite neighbour - to make fun of. Sweden is basically the promised land for gay men. We have a lot of jokes too, I just don't remember any right now. Never heard of Finnkampen, though, but I live closer to Russia so it might be the reason. Here we concentrate on the loud and slutty Russians. ^^
A necessary qustion: do you remember any good Norwegian jokes? And it'd be interesting to know what the Swedes think of Finns.
Noo, I don't want to think about the ticket line! And I suppose I should check the journal every now and then in case you keep reply failing. :D
DX
How embarrasing.. Glad this is your journal so you'll get noted anyway.
*snif*
