As long as his computer was able to boot up to Windows then it's most likely the HDD fault... or his fault in general for installing stuffs in it like a mother feeding too much to her children until they can't move their limbs.

The HDD itself may be just fine.
Maybe something got corrupted. A fresh installation of windows should do the trick then.

If he's using Windows 10, then that is 90% likely to be the cause... because it happens a lot =A=... <-- (victim)

p sure it's my motherboard, it's good but super old (over 5 yrs), it has an i7 but doesn't handle win10 or my graphics card drivers very well

I got an old computer frkm the year 2008 and it works fine with win 10 just that it lacks ram to keep it from lagging xP

I think you're onto something there. What's happening to him does sound like hard drive death. It takes a while for them to go sometimes. But often it sounds just like this, they have a hard time spinning. So you can boot the machine, it just takes ages to do anything. So yeah AD I second this, try another hard drive first, even if it's just a random spare one. Especially convenient if you have one that you know will boot up fine in another machine.

That really sucks. Computer is kind of pain in the butt when the computers does that or laptop.

Meh, I'm sure it can be fixed. Not sure what the trouble is from ya description but a reinstall (as others suggested) would probably take care of the issue.

Of course, buying a new computer/laptop is always fun! :)

whatever you do, after you installed windows and all needed software, clone the whole thing on a not used HDD or SSD and then put the clone aside as emergency back up.

Put the empty HDD/SSD in the computer as c drive and then clone from the original c drive onto it. So it will start and download the needed HDD/SSD driver.

After checking that it works, put it aside and no need to thank me ;)

I do that all the time. I have 3 clones of every PC I use and 1 for the spares. One is the grandfather, a very lean clone and two are the clones of the last year or so. I clone every couple months.

tbh i don't rly know how to do that kind of stuff lol i have mozy for file back ups tho so nothing is rly in danger of getting lost thankfully

I agree, I clone my main drive as well, so if it falls over I simply switch drives and keep on truckin.

yah, i understand that, however im kinda spreading the word about that tablet since its the closet feeling i have gotten to a pencil in my recent pictures are with it

but if ya work with heavy resolutions and stuff like that i understand yer workstation choice, i kinda had to switch because of some constant problems with my wacom tablet >_>

Get a Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) LiveCD and boot the computer from it. Use it normaly (e.g. open Firefox and go to FA) for some time and if you don't have any problems, it's Windows or hard disk problem. Ubuntu includes tools for checking the hard disk so check it. If it shows that the hard disk is failing, backup the important files to e.g. external hard disk and replace the faulty hard drive. If it shows that the hard drive is fine, just reinstall Windows (or install Ubuntu if you want to switch to it).
