Therianism: Why it's simply a state of mind.

General
It has come to my attention that every single person who claims to be a therian, either identifies with cats, wolves, foxes, or other types of canines.
Claiming that they were this type of animal in a past life.
And I have to say..
I'm sorry, but it is bologna.
If therianism were an actual process, all these different types of people would be an abundance of different animals.
I have never seen a mouse, nor a primate, nor a reptile, nor a groundhog, nor an aquatic animal, nor a penguin, etc.
"But I howl like a wolf/ meow like a cat/ feel like a fox!"
That does not have anything to do with spirituality, sorry.
These animals are popular picks with people because of one thing-- aesthetics.
People are drawn to the aesthetics of these animals, and cling to their mannerisms. Associating these characteristics with their own identity.
It is natural for humans to like pretty, attractive things. Which is where the issue people of swearing up and down that they're wolves come from.
But logically, the idea of therianism just doesn't add up. If it did. Why would EVERY human reincarnated from an animal happen to be only limited to these species?
There are THOUSANDS OF SPECIES in the animal kingdom.
You are not a wolf.
You are not a fox.
You are not a cat.
You are a human being.
Unpopular opinion has been voiced. Initiate rage.
End rant.

If therians and otherkin were both legit, there would be far more people identifying with/as more "unpopular" species, but as you said, they just prefer to associate with attractive animals.
I like to think therianism is a voluntary type of insanity that's overdue for a cure.
It was the quickest phase of my life and I kinda just woke up one day like "This is dumb" XD
"Let's not post anything for years, then blast personal opinions in a group journal and see how many people we can piss off!"
The wannabe edge is strong with this one.
To be fair, you're not wrong about there Plenty of Otherkin of various species, I've seen Flamingokin, Batkin, Insectkin, Dinosaurkin and even Bonobokin so to say all Otherkin are Canines and Felines is not accurate in the slightest
However I do believe this Group has a vallid point and futhermore is NOT a Hate Group in that Wolves, Foxes and other Canids are generally a Fad among Furries
(To the Group Leader, a Question, I know there is a Fad with majestic wolves. foxes and huskies, but what about domestic dogs that are...Less aesthetically appealing like English Bulldogs and Old English Sheepdogs and Pugs?)
This group has their right to criticize, if this were a hate group they would a lot less thoughtful about how they phrased things, if this were a Hate Group they would be saying things like 'ARR those F***in' Wofies and Foxies! Just F*** Em!' But they don't instead they give very valid reasoning for why they feel too many furs take Canid Fursonas just to conform and the Group Founder does mention his obsession with Huskies
So in conclusion this isn't hate but it is the provocateur their criticism can be sometimes harsh but that is exactly the point, the words are meant to make you think, they aren't intended to make you feel bad
This group is what TV Tropes calls Devil's Advocate
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p.....DevilsAdvocate
Incidentally someone is doing just that with this project called TURF
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2035418/
Unfortunately the project has come to a screeching halt but do you know Tessy by any chance
But you know what they say If you don't like something, do it the way you like it, If I were take up on what you suggested and host a group focusing on showcasing exotic species...Could you give me some pointers on how to found a Group? Does it cost money?
I don't know how you feel about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Lupa, I for one am I big fan, and so...I decided to make my Group for those who want to make Fursonas who are also Fan Characters/OCs for the TMNT Universe, all species are welcome to join, and I guess the Group will not only feature fan art but also fan fiction
super serious answer: i'm kin with the moon and if you disagree with me on that i'm going to cry for a million years and post about it 30 times on my blog
An animal may have a very vague sense of what we would consider futility or existentialism, you never see it in the wild but animals in zoos have been known to get some form of clinical depression. Although you might say that's just the human interpretation, and the animal is just going haywire from a result of not being able to act out its natural instincts. I'm not a zoologist so I certainly can't weigh in.
"be different - but don't be that, it's stupid"
A single lifetime is not much time to change one's level of enlightenment, and as such, most beings that are reincarnated as humans from other species are wolves and foxes, because humanity is just a step or two above/below those species.
(But in seriousness, the flaw in your argument is that one would expect a roughly equal distribution of therian species identifications only if all species had an equal chance of being reincarnated as humans. Maybe wolves and foxes are more likely to reincarnate as humans for some reason or another! )
secondly, as far as the spirituality aspect goes, it is not as shallow as simply barking like a dog or meowing like a cat. this is more of a sign of psychological therianthropy, which is fairly often used as a coping mechanism as opposed to a significant identity, rather than spiritual. spiritual therianthropy is much more personal and intense than just 'feeling like a wolf.' you are of course not obligated to believe in, or even understand, spiritual therianthropy; i understand it is a topic that is bound to be viewed with skepticism at some point or another, as with all other spiritual beliefs. but it is definitely worth noting that beliefs involving heavy spirituality are generally much more complex than meets the eye, and it is not fair to judge the entire basis of a belief because some stupid losers made it out to be something that it isn't.
in the grand scheme of things, we are all human beings. there is no debate to be had about it. even i myself as a therian get so peeved when i see others claiming "i am a wolf, i hate humans, don't call me a human, nag nag, whine whine." unfortunately those people have made themselves into the poster children of this community, and as a result we have nothing but immature edgy children spreading false information on our behalf. therianthropy is confusing, scary, and off-putting to many of those outside of the community. and that's okay. you can love us, you can hate us, you could just not give a fuck about us. but at the end of the day all i ask is one thing - familiarize yourself with the whole story rather than just part of it - especially a part of it which is untrue - before forming a negative opinion. 🐾
