A new vision on patreon.
In the past, to make a long story short. I hated Patreon, I found some artists abusing it in a way where they put all of their work on there, or censored alot of their now "free art" and you had to pay to see naughty bits. To me that is silly, unfair, and detrimental. If you don't show any or such little bits of your work publicly, who will support you?
I found artists who found a way that makes me love Patreon. They have mass public works, but they have private sketches, stories, comics, things like that, exclusive to Patreon. They still release these works later for everyone, but months later, not limiting themselves to hiding all of their work with a false ideal of self importance. They have patreon so that people can get early access and exclusive content rather than "you need to pay to be my fan" idealism.
Long story short, don't have patreon if all your work is on there and you don't release it all, patreon works best when you use it for loyal fan who just wanna show support and enjoy rewards for that support.

THANK YOU! This sums up my thoughts on Patreon so well. I see it far too often being used to hold art hostage, and people's main accounts essentially turned into nothing more than adverts for their Patreons. I still have my concerns that, for the most part, you have to have enough fans to be doing well anyway in order for Patreon to "work" for you, but if there is a right way to do it, what you described is definitely it.
