Story writers, I have a question for you

Is there any tips or suggestions you can make to open a story? I've had a lot of ideas in my head I want to write up, but my biggest gripe is the first sentence that goes into it all. Do I describe something or have a character make a comment or what? I'm just curious if there's something people tend to go with that works or if there's clichés I should avoid.

Or, like others have suggested, start in the middle, right in the thick of the action. Beginnings are hard, so warm up with something easier first.
