while it is good to rescue and adopt pets. Shelters and vets promote neutering because it makes them the most money. Neutering is the most invasive procedure and therefor the most expensive, and therefor the one the vets and shelters make the most money off of. So they promote it more than any other, even though there are less expensive procedures which help ensure pet populations. Neutering removes a vital part of the animal's body. In the case of a male, the place where testosterone is produced. Testosterone is required for health and well being of all males.
They lie to us claiming neutering calms an animal down. Well you'd be depressed to if you had your balls cut out without your permission. And it calms them down because the removal of testosterone removes energy. I am mostly impotent myself and know this is true, that testosterone is needed for energy as well.
They claim it removes aggression. Not true. Aggression can and has been trained into and out of animals whether they are fixed or not. I have known many animals who are fixed to be aggressive, and many who are not fixed to be very loving and affectionate.
They make us feel we are not responsible owners if we do not get our pets fixed. They make us sign documents, knowing we will get our pets fixed if we don't want the consequences they mention. Yet that contract is not legally binding, because they are merely pushing their view, and their view can be proven false.
I'm all for rescuing pets and taking care of them. Giving them loving homes. But I am not for those that would use this to make more money for themselves.

True. Vasectomy is a perfectly valid option for male sterilization, without the removal of any organs. Tubal ligation is also available for females, although a bit more invasive than a vasectomy. Or mere human responsibility and attentiveness is the best option. My female pup was intact for over 12 years of her life before a medical problem made spaying an actual medical necessity (she got through it all and is perfectly fine now). But for all those years, all I had to do was be responsible with her by watching her when she was outdoors, and as far as putting absorbent pads on her for menstrual blood that was only a minor inconvenience. There was no difference in her personality or behavior between her cycles in heat and out of heat (other than acting horny with my other dog), or after she was spayed, and she never attempted to run off to get laid like so many peoples' myths said. And also contrary to popular myth, over the years through living in 4 different locations in the country and suburbs, never once did any male dogs show up to get to her when she was in heat. A definite plus was that the three doctors in her vet's office were all supportive (or at least accepting) of my decision to keep her intact, and while they did describe the pluses and minuses of spaying, they never pressured me to put her through unnecessary surgery.

Not to my knowledge, and with Rainfurrest gone it's hard to say who's going to step up to the plate. I don't see one of the biggest furry cities in America staying without a con for long.
