I really like original and unique YCHs, even if they cost a bit more than the standard "Buttsex without background"-Thing :P

For example? I have in mind some sc-fi and medival scenes but not sure if its not a broken record XD

I dont have any examples by paw, but most YCH's are two character images without background that either suck or fuck themselves.
Some scenery YCH is very rare

YCH's based on "here is a character in this pose" or "Two characters in some sexual act" tend to be bland, unless super creative. For example, a pose of a character doing a handstand is kinda meh. But a pose of a character in a spacesuit floating above a planet is pretty awesome.

The better running YCH are comics or high themes. Themes includes transformation where there character starts out one way and ends up as another species/gender/whatever. Maybe the YCH is a "your character as a plant" or something unique like that.

As long as your YCH has some fun, creative flair to it, most people will be up in arms about it. Favorite YCH's I've seen are comics, transformation, and one where it was different members of a raiding party and one fur was a wizard, one was a paladin, and so on.

So for the most part, I tend to prefer to commission works that I have a scene or an idea I'd like to have created on canvas, often times it is something that I will tell a story with. I'd say that is about 90% of the commissions I have purchased thus far.

The other 10% are some YCHs that somehow, some way just speak to me, creative ideas that I had not though of before (like a fantasy setting http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19935371/ ), or situations that simply made me laugh (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19372811/ ). On occasion, I'll run into a YCH that allow me to further develop my character's story (like this wonderful idea: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19907151/ ).

There are artists out there, in my opinion that do the YCH thing better than others, for example I think  koul has some WONDERFUL YCH ideas, and to the point that almost all of them are auto bought because the scenes are pretty awesome.

But yeah, that is my take on it. If it makes me laugh, or if it feeds my imagination and maybe even allows me to further develop the story behind my OCs, it is something that I find quite fascinating and pleasant, particularly since the ideas I've purchased were ones that I hadn't thought of in the literally dozens ideas I've gathered references and made a list for either future commissions, or as my skill develops, to create myself.

Oh thank you for such detail post! I agree with you about things Koul and Orphen doing. They are dang good at this. We`re trying to do our best with BGs too but still not as good as they do XD
We`ve already sketched some unusual scenes closed to our hearts hope people would see the same beauty in simple but warms situations <_<

For what it's worth,

I think you make some very nice BGs, I think some of the darker contrasts are your strength, but I think you have some very fine BGs in some of your pieces. Here's the ones I think in particular show what I mean:

I hope ya'll are able to make some of those situations in the future, there definately is so much potential within the fandom artistically, and I wish there was a stronger interest in things other than almost just porn >.< A balance of the two within the preferences of the community, for SFW and NSFW, would be nice...

I'm here for the backgrounds and something interesting going on. I'm mostly surfing off NSFW ones myself right now because they sell easily and I need cash =\ but I try to use them as an excuse to try new things with the backgrounds at least.
If I was looking to buy, it wouldn't be a NSFW YCH though, probably something sci-fi or diesel-punkish maybe. I think there's an over abundance of backgroundless NSFW YCHs.

I like a more action scene style YCH. Like a fight scene, playing a sport, or using a musical instrument. I never see enough of those going around.

I don't like most YCHs for exactly the reasons you said, they seem to be boring. Of course, once in a while I see one and go, "Hmm, I have a character that would look good in that pose" but the vast majority of them I skip over.

I like the ones that are unusual, so not cheesecake pinup poses, but ones where I can see my character doing something meaningful and something they would actually be doing, so usually a sort of interesting work situation or maybe a fight scene or maybe just relaxing at home, something surprisingly you don't see too often.
