Not sure I want FA anymore.
Years ago I came over to FA as a sort of digital refugee from an adult site that went tits up. The community as I've come to know it (meaning not the forums, yikes) has always been welcoming. But in the time I've been here the site has been attacked several times and each time it was simply annoying and nothing more. They've become more frequent and they've become more sophisticated, and this most recent time resulted in the theft of passwords. People I watch have reported attempts on other accounts of theirs since then. I haven't found anything yet but I still have to make the rounds and change passwords just in case.
I've transitioned from doing art just for fun to doing it to support my family. I make ok money at it but it's not making me rich. I try to conduct myself like a professional so as to maintain the business I have and attract more clients in the future who see my work.
FurAffinity's team is not professional. There is literally no accountability for our passwords being stolen and information compromised. None. I'm sure an apology was issued but that and a couple bucks will get me a soda at 7-11. It's useless to me. And they can't promise it won't happen again, not really. The personal drama of a few people somewhere else on the site and the animosity it breeds for the site as a whole is no doubt to blame and frankly I just don't know if I want to be around it anymore when I have so much at stake in maintaining the flow of work that I generate.
But I won't make the decisions just yet because really.... I'm pissed. And making a decision while I'm pissed is generally a bad idea. But I behave myself on the site, I play nice with everyone, I try to engage with people as often as I can in an enthusiastic way and I don't shit on anyone here and yet somehow I still have to go through this circus every month or so because some asshole on the internet hates some other asshole on the internet. How many other people posting their work here are in the same boat as I am?
I think I've had enough. I'm going to give it some thought as I calm down, try to arrive at a decision non-impulsively. But for those of you who are fans of my work I will provide other places you can find me as many other people are doing right now. I will also include a brief description of how it gets used.
http://renezuo.deviantart.com/ Good for nudes but no hardcore stuff will be permitted here.
http://www.hentai-foundry.com/user/Renezuo/profile Everything sexy time related but doesn't include all sketches and stuff that's less hardcore tends to be left out a lot.
http://renezuo.tumblr.com/ (Best source of news and info as well as art. Everything ends up here)
https://www.patreon.com/Renezuo?ty=h Where my paid work gets supported, people who support kind of direct the course of a lot of my work. If this interests you and you like to engage with an artist, consider my patreon
https://www.weasyl.com/~renezuo I also have one of these which has been updated infrequently. I've always thought their site was really nice but didn't have a lot of reason to update it. I'll be giving this much more attention from now on. You could expect the same interactions and posts from me here over there now.
https://twitter.com/RenezuoArt I'm not as good about updating this as I should be, but for people in to twitter this could be a useful link to you.

FA+

Of course.... with as many people as I know who maintain their galleries elsewhere, I might not need to even do that.
You honestly should assumed that every site you use is going to be hacked at some point and plan accordingly, since pretty much everywhere gets hacked.
It goes down, it gets DDoSed, it gets hacked...there's always something. So I have to believe one of a few things here:
1) The technical specifications of the site are soft garbage that is easy to mess with.
2) Someone on staff or who is in charge has managed to generate enough animosity somehow that people sink a disproportionate amount of effort in to fucking with the site.
3) The community somehow generates that hate instead of the people running the site.
4) The staff is simply not up to the task of maintaining security on a site that everyone knows is for some reason under regular attack.
If any one of these are true, its not a good space for a professional to occupy, it's setting up shop in a hot zone....when other available zones aren't nearly as risky and take the matter of security for it's users more seriously. That's really what it comes down to for me, whether or not this place is a liability for me.
Ha, nyaa.eu gets assaulted constantly. Still the best place and most popular place to get anime, just as this is still the best place to get furry porn.
Also I think the complaints about management are about the biggest mountains out of molehills I've seen on any site, bar none. As someone who works for a big internet company - for the amount of shit slung at this site I'd say they've done an admirable job keeping it running as much as it has.
So everything I'm saying comes from the perspective of someone who does not participate in the forums, does not engage in personal fights with people, and is unaware of the kind of mudslinging that goes on in a different section of the site. So my opinion of the matter is not colored by personal preferences for people.
It's informed entirely by performance and reliability; how much I can depend on it to be up and running when I need it to be. And when you look at it solely from a customer review aspect of things, it just doesn't hold up to literally any other art gallery I post in.... nor forums I've posted my own art in. I've heard people argue that bigger sites can do more because funding. I've also heard that smaller sites don't come under attack as much because they're not known. So I hear a lot of excuses defending the site as a whole. But really I'm just giving you the experience of a guy sitting on the outside who is still making use of the services provided and just isn't satisfied with the results.
