When you've got a site that is incapable of maintaining it's security and it's uptime, then you've got a problem.
The Best choice in all actuality is to network, and have your own site.
But if you're a businessman, I suppose you'd be able to vouch for FurAffinity's ability to maintain itself? The qualifications of it's staff and reliability of it's code?
The artist has a supply of art he wants to or can deliver, aka the commissions, for that he has a certain amount of demand. In almost all cases, the higher the demand, the higher the profit for said good.
Now, one of the ways to increase the demand (and thus increase the artist's profit) is to try and establish contact with various people. Being active on multiple sites allows them to do so. If the artist is to leave, he would cut down on a possible sum of demand.
So please do explain to me that with this simple notion, leaving FA would be profitable to him. You talk about issues of maintaining security (which doesn't influence the artist's demand) aswell uptime (which is a downflux of demand indeed, but leaving the site is an obsolete form of 'having downtime'). As a matter of fact, you do mention that the best solution is to network, which is exactly what sites like these are for.
Please do respond with possible counter arguments about this. Afterall, I like to keep my wits sharp about this
