Kids Draw the Darndest Things Pt2
I'm finding more and more in life that if you're willing to open up and talk with someone, you're bound to find something you have in common. Or, in the case of this manager who's filling in for our GM [and whose daughter draws furry art], we have a great many more things in common than would have initially seemed possible.
It started with a benign comment about him and his daughter going up to PA for a convention. Given the artwork I had just seen from his daughter a few days ago, my ears perk up again and I was like, "Praytell which convention are we speaking of...?" XD Turned out it was a comic con rather than a furry convention. Still, that opened up a whole new realm of conversation.
You may have experienced this yourselves in talking with someone new. Because comic cons are such a varied thing and oft include a heavy sprinkling of anime, there's a huge wealth of games and shows that one could bring up. So, then he and I enter into what I can only describe as a friendly verbal sparring match. He's like, "I was mainly just going to the con because I'm into Gundam and I collect the models." *PUNCH* And I'm like, yeah man, I got you. I've been all about some Gundam since high school! *BLOCK* Then we get on the subject of cosplay and how he still has some clothes laying around for doing civil war re-enacting that he'd like to turn into an Assassin's Creed cosplay. *KICK* And I'm all like, I too like these games. Bring it, what else you got! *PARRY* And then he brings out the big guns talking about having an outfit he's been working on for steampunk cosplay and I'm *KO'ed*
Too much too much! My heart can't take it!
I'm gonna miss this jerk when he's gone in another week or so. ^(_)6

That's super awesome that you ended up finding out that guy has some pretty awesome interests, and now you know where his daughter gets it from lol. That's super awesome. I love moments like that where you unexpectedly bond with somebody who doesn't even seem like they'd share those kinds of interests. Unfortunately, i'm a hermit at my job, so I don't reach out enough to people to figure out if they share interests. This story is kinda inspiring to do that though. xD
Hopefully you find out in the future who is daughter is and can appreciate more of her work too!
I'm typically not exactly an outgoing person irl, but I'm easy enough to talk with if someone else initiates it. Hell, I had a conversation with a random stranger a month ago on the Metro in DC. We started off talking about stuff to do in the city and somehow got off on a tangent about living in other states. I said I'd love to live in CA because so many of the people I follow online live out that way [ie. SPG, Game Grumps, Maximillian, Markiplier, etc]. It's too damn expensive though. -(_)- I had to laugh though cause his reason for refusing to live out there is because of the violence between the Bloods and the Crips.
He was a black guy who was probably a good 4-5 years older than me...so I guess that makes sense. As a young white person, that thought likely wouldn't have even have occurred to me. Anyways, it's interesting getting to see someone else's perspective on things. It's not a perfect world, but we have more in common with each other than we may ever now...unless you open up and talk to someone. ^(_)^
I practice my socializing as best as I can. I'm definitely okay at responding to people, kinda like you, where I just answer their questions or topic if someone else initiates it. And, i don't think he's far from wrong lol. When I dated my now ex boyfriend, he lived in the tougher parts of California where there was loads of gang activity. We would skype call and you could hear gun shots here and there outside his window. It was pretty crazy! So, there's definitely some violence out there. My ex was mexican, so he would get confronted a lot going out, even though he was a harmless person out on a walk often times. My ex was a bigger guy too.
That is true! I think for me though, it's difficult to keep conversation flow. A lot of people I speak with drop like flies at some point during conversation, so i feel like i can't keep interest, or i'm not sure what to interest people with.
I'm bad personally about the hanging out -after- work thing. When I first came to this store they used to do team building exercises on the weekends to try and boost morale. They wanted to go bowling or go out to eat as a group though and I was never all that in to giving up my free time for things that.
I think I could get behind doing an anime night though! XD
