You may want to start saving every 30 minutes or so, and multiple files in separate folders. Redundancy can save you from such soul crushing experiences ;_;

I'm a software programmer, and saving every ten minutes became a requirement for me.

I save super frequently. Lesson learned though... Duplicate progress files will be needed to prevent future heartache.

OMG I remember having to deal with that. It's so common with every version of Photoshop that I had from the 90s to 2000s. Ever since switching to Clip Studio Paint a few years ago, I haven't had that problem yet. (Don't want to jinx myself though lol) Maybe consider giving Clip Studio a try to see if it's right for your style.
