PhD Update: May 2016
The meeting with my supervisor earlier this month yielded some unexpected results. My original plan was to do a mixed methodology that used both face-to-face and online interviews to gather data. That methodology changed drastically.
As I'm sure all of you have heard me say the interviews were great. You were all very open and gave me a lot to think about. In fact, the data was so good you all broke my original plan. :) After reviewing the basics of what I'm finding with my supervisor we've decided to skip the online-only interviews and do targeted follow-ups with some of you online. We're not sure who will be picked out for the targeted follow-ups, but I want to state explicitly that if I don't require one with you it's not because your data wasn't useful. Actually, it's the opposite. If I don't require a follow-up with you it's because you gave me everything I needed in the face-to-face interview.
Transcripts will be out as soon as I've been given the okay to send them to you. It's going to be a few months still, because I'm transferring to Huddersfield University with my supervisor and we have to make sure we're meeting their guidelines for this as well.
I've been asked before why I seem to be moving slowly with the research. To be totally honest, I'm slow because I work alone. Early last year I was offered the opportunity to get a research assistant and I refused. I've been told that I could use transcription services and I refused (also the cost for that is insane). Unless I'm very familiar with a research assistant or a transcription aid they're not getting near the data you trusted me with. I've been told twice now that I'm too guarded and stubborn. I think the recent attack on FA proves that I have to be guarded. I work slow, I work alone, but I do it for your safety.
On an unrelated note, I had planned to attend Confuzzled this year. Unfortunately I can't make it out there for a day. I literally just finished packing a bag and had something come up. Maybe next year.

Happy your research is going well ^.^
