Eurovision has come and gone for this year and ESCfurs are finally back up and running after a week in Stockholm and the following FA problems.
As expected SVT provided us with a great show. Good hosts, good writing and great interval acts led us safely through all 42 competing songs. The new voting system kept tensions high to the very end, but did spark some debate as it was later revealed Australia would have won if the old system had still been in place. In Russia there's has also been a lot of commotion over them winning the televote, but only finishing 3rd. Their anger is probably fueld by the political situation between them and our winner, Ukraine.
Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song 1944 by Jamala. The song tells the story of her grandmother and the rest of the Crimean Tartars deportation from Crimea in 1944 and has been criticized for really being a coment on today's situation.
Nevertheless, Europe was touched by Jamalas personal entry and impressive vocals and voted her to victory.
The plans for hosting next year's contest is already in planning with the 2005 host city Kiev, and Lviv being the frontrunners as host cities.

I hope Australia's invited back for 2017.
By the way, it's 'Tartars', not 'Tartans' (which are Scottish plaid patterns). :) I do now wonder what a Crimean tartan would look like, though.
