A furry is an individual to which takes part of the fandom of anthropomorphic animals
(What happened was people thought it was a good idea to mix fetishes and other likings into it.)

uhmmmmm it's a thing where people enjoy animals that walk on two legs & have human-like characteristics, that's about it..
but yeah sinser explained already that people decided to bring their fetishes into something innocent & now everyone outside of the fandom looks down on us cuz it's even WORSE to have furry porn/fetishes cuz they are ANIMALS involved in it, so people think furries are into fucking actual animals, yay

The definition of furry, as far as I've found, entails two components.

A. Liking of anthropomorphic art in one way or another.
B. The personal feeling that this liking is so strong that it is a defining trait of your personality.

Only A: you are one of the millions of people enjoying cartoons on a regular basis.
Only B, you're weirdly following a group you have no ties with.

A+B is furries.


Similarly, there are millions of star trek fans, but only a small portion of them feel the need to define that as a defining trait of their character. Trekkies.
