Vive, Oculus Rift.

Anyone here have one? How is it? was it worth the 600-800 price tag they are asking for? I'm more likely to get a Vive myself since it's tied to Valve Software and steam.
FA+

Another big thing here, is there are a surprising number of people playing on hardware that is below the minimum requirements, and having no issue whatsoever. (Thanks to things like Asynchronous Timewarp (Oculus), and Reprojection (Vive) (Though Oculus' ATW tends to be more useful on lower-end hardware.)
On quality and other nuances. The CV1 objectively has the clearest image of the two big HMDs right now, but regardless, all HMDs are still subject to the Screen Door Effect, so it's all kind of relative. Though, honestly, while you are playing, you generally stop seeing it and just got lost in whatever world you are currently inhabiting. Vive, as I said earlier, is the only complete package at the moment when it comes to motion controllers. Both headsets can do room-scale tracking without issue though.
The Vive has a very slightly wider FOV, which I personally like more. There is one thing I do not like about the vive's motion controllers though, which is simply that the set of side-buttons around the middle of the controllers are very awkward to press, but that was just in my experience. Some people had told me you get used to the hand position required to use them comfortably.
In short, they are all fantastic.
I can say that. there is a certain security for me that comes from knowing that its systems have been tested over and over again on many hundreds of different pc rigs and god only knows how many different situations by people all over the world for the last 4 years.
No matter how well Sony and HTC and other future producers market their own devices, non of them can make that claim. The rift has been tested in the real world by everyone from students to gamers to devs to game studios to Universities and schools.
Plus when i wear it, my Facebook Rift feels so light, deceptively so, one of the main reasons I have such faith in it despite the poor starting release is that I know that a huge amount of devolvement has gone just into making the technology more and more compact and light.
Another important thing is that people are developing Games for it right now and have been for more than 2 years simply because the soft and hardware has been gotten to developers early.
Ok, so, went on a bit of a ramble there.
Saying all this. I would jump at the chance to own a vive If I had room for one, and as long as I could use leap motion or the Facebook Rifts own motion controllers when they come out. I have seen many people using the Vives, and its is very easy to bash them on things simply because they stick out so far. While Oculus Touch controllers have a thick hard band that goes around the knuckles that protects the hand and acts as a robust base for the tracking points.
I know this post makes me seem like a Rift fanboy. I don't want to come across as that, I have had and still have grave misgivings about how they are handling themselves. And, I did go ahead and bid for my Rift on Ebay simply because the item had already been used and tested for thirty minutes to make sure there was no faults. Something that has been an issue when buying direct from Oculus.
Simply put, welcome! to the world of tomorrow!....today, no matter which you prefer I am sure you will enjoy them both.
I'm highly interested in the Vive given the combination with the controllers, but at the same time, the lack of any real movement would personally get in the way of immersion -- a lot of the games built for the vive tend to use 'teleporting' to move to different areas.. It's for that reason I'm not really going to invest in one. It's a novelty at the moment and all games developed for it make full use of the novelty aspect. I'd be interested in it if more meaningful games were developed for it but again, I can't see it happening given the lack of immersive movement options.
That saiiiiiiiiid, there's also another tech.. the Virtuix Omni which covers the movement aspect of VR REALLY nicely. This + Vive would be jaw dropping.

In the video, it seems like it's an Oculus Rift being used. If it was a vive with the vive controllers... -drools-
To me, the best thing about VR is getting immersed. The problem I have with the Vive and OR is the control methods would really break the immersion. Vive + Omni would cover that...
That said.. it'd be an expensive set up. The Vive itself in the UK is like $1,200. I can't see many people getting it so I can't see there being enough demand for games to support it..
That's my ramblings. xD
