A game already did you, its called Mars: War Logs

and it also not even a prequel to Mars: War Logs, its the same idea just "different universe"
So I shall just assume: "they got enough money, they decided that they gonna try again with the same concept but have a better budget.

the common thing to do is to just go back, update the graphics, fix a few bugs and then release it as the "Remastered" or "Definitive" version of the game
Very few would go "Since we actually HAVE money lets use the same story but improve upon the game of stuff we had to cut out or couldnt do
