Fingers are the bane of my art. Such a simple little limb shouldn't give you so much trouble!

Don't worry, hands and feet are the two hardest parts oh any drawing. Only "the other eye" comes close to rivaling them and that's just an illusion.
But in either case, if you can't draw them, THEN DRAW THEM ALWAYS!
You have to sort through a certain amount of horrible art before the good ones start popping up so it's best to get there quickly. But yes; much like micros, small things can cause big problems unless you treat them right.

Because if they were easy, then you wouldn't feel so good when you get them right.

This is quite true... "We do not do things because they are easy, but because they are hard."

It's because dimension, depth, and perspective are all matters ascribing to a three dimensional object.
You can't chisel it out of the paper like a sculptor; All you can do is give the illusion of these things.
That is why it is difficult. You have to make something on two dimensions seem deeper than it is.
