I thought you guys were cool
Anyone know anybody who works at Valve that can get me permission to put my video back up?
EDIT: I get the feeling someone sent a fake request, but I can't confirm it. Has anyone filed a counter-notice before?

FA+

Now the terrists have our secrets
Heh.. but that might not be a joke with the way things are going..
How is it that people can upload Garry's mod vidyas but you can have your music remixes |:
Seriously, it's fucking bullshit.
Even Valve had a video (Meet the Scout) pulled from Youtube because someone claiming to be EA France reported the video infringed on copyright owned by EA.
I"m file a counter claim and contact Gabe Newell (gaben@valvesoftware.com) and VALVe Support (contact@valvesoftware.com) and their copyright e-mail (copyright@valvesoftware.com) directly .
Your song falls under fair use (it's a derivative work and it's protected. same as someone who makes mash-ups or a club DJ making a mix on the tables)
I'd fight this as much as you can Nobu. Namely cause this is giving Valve a bad name and they'd hate to have people lose faith in their products because someone is misrepresenting themselve as Valve and speaking on behalf of Valve itself.
EA France claimed copyright on the Meet the Spy video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR4N5OhcY9s&feature=channel_page <- Evidence here)
Someone is making stuff up and making Valve look really bad in the process
I dunno what Valve is doing about it. But I should hope they dont' take this lying down.
What kind of letter did you send Nobu? Basically asking them if they really did object to your mash-up or if someone is having some fun at your expense?
BTW Nobu I'd like to state for the record I AM NOT A LAWYER. So any "legal" advice you get from me is not intended to replace that of a real lawyer.
Unfortuately it's a horrible system of checks and balances really favoring people who can and will abuse the system for their own gain or shits and giggles.
Fight this with every ounce of blood in your body.
whatever it may be
The Moral
Ghey valve.... IS GHEY...
And knowing Valve, they actually support these videos. If you have seen "Super TF 2", they actually promoted this video on the official TF2-site couple of weeks ago when they were lauching Spy VS Sniper-update.
In brief: Valve loves anything that is user/player made,as long as you won't start selling "their stuff" without their permission. If you have seen "The War of Servers"-gmod video, you might also know that there's a DVD-release too, especially since all the original conten makers are credited.
All I say now is that don't get panicked. From now on or ever in these kinds of situations.
And if Youtube keeps bugging you, I can recomment you to try Vimeo. Sure, they have a upload limit per week (500 Megabytes if I remember right) or something similiar for free users. But as far as I'm concerned, that site more fair than Youtube and Viacom combo.
