We just dropped $1600 and wasted 2 weeks on our old car in May, so I feel your pain. Cars are the worst. They're so expensive, but they're basically MANDATORY to have. I hate it. :/

yeah it's fucking insane. where we are, we're not even rural or anything, the transit system is just really shit and most of the businesses are in strip malls and business parks so everything within reasonable walking distance is like... a single-person gas station type thing or a mom-and-pop store that doesn't need outside help. the nearest bus stop is literally miles away and only goes a few places so not having a car is A Huge Deal.

Our public transit is also a heaping pile of bullshit, and I hate it. I have yet to see anywhere that isn't a gigantic city where that shit is actually convenient.
