I've been considering going to a doctor and getting antidepressants and am curious if there are people here who take them, what do they think about this? Is it a bad idea? Do they have bad side effects? I'm deeply in need of something to take away my sadness. What do you think?

Well, generally it doesn't take a lot. Companionship, friendship and nice times. But this has been strongly lacking more and more and I'm nearly without anything. Alone and sad.
It's any wonder why so many people can't break free from this as there doesn't seem to be quite a good solution. I am slowly running out force of will and resolve.
It is weird how depression is so common and yet like the common cold there is no outstanding medicine to deal with it.
timing. Good luck.
The sideaffects from taking them, does more harm than good!
I dealt with my issues of schizophrenia and depression. The shrinks had me taking lithium
And I believe that it was the reason I've become diabetic. You can Google that!
I have come across some books that dealt with the studies of the human physiology on the college level.
How to study the "patient",diagnos him/her with a certain mental condition/s,the possible treatments of those conditions, prescribed medication, therapy sessions, and so on....
Lithium, according to what the book says of it,if a patient has a family history of diabetes . Prescribe with close supervision!
Of course, most of those antidepressants impair judgment to a certain degree ,uncontrollable involuntary movement of body parts and Sometimes even permanent!
Feeling tired and drowsiness.
Even sexually affects you!
Let's see
... ah yeas! RESPERIDONE! STAY AWAY FROM THAT! I was prescribed that! I had twitchy fingers, my boy tits started lactating!
I advise you to find other ways to ease the discomfort of depression besides taking the risks of taking antidepressants!
You remember news reports of people who was prescribed Prozac?
If you are planning on seeing a shrink and unfortunately want to prescribe medication. ....
Be sure to ask them to inform you on the side affects that medication may cause!
Don't just take it because they say so! HELLTOTHAFUCKNO!
You like mah typing pattern, how what I am typing makes sense and then it doesn't, missing words that makes a sentence more understandable, and seems like I speak mah own language?
Uh huh! Take those antidepressants and you'll understand !
I wanna can I slap them with multiple lawsuits?
I learned to deal with my issues and stop taking those medications!
Speaking of "sound" ,I hear and see things that aren't even there!
To deal with my issues.
I go hang out with friends that knows and accept my issues, listen to my stereo, fix, something, draw, wait for the flea markets to open, watch the tv,torture
I hope that this depression thing wasn't a lifelong history?
Maybe a therapy session with people with similar issues might help? Best to talk about things to another person.
I've been to those kind of sessions. .. you might think you had problems until the next person share theirs! I tell ya!
Makes you feel better about your own or make you feel like you issue ain't no big deal!
You'll laugh, cry,or crouch low and tiptoe on all fours, out of the therapy group session!
If all else fails and you do get prescribed antidepressants. .. may God have mercy on you and those pills too!
I hope that there will be none at all and may it short term if possible! *hugs*
*Hugs back* Thanks Tyrone. You're a great friend.
But I do agree with what was said before. A support group can work as well. Have you looked into going to a support group? Sometimes just being able to talk it out with people can help.
