Defining a moment...
It is dawn and a soft, hazy glow peers between the balcony blinds. Beside me, my friend and roomate is sleeping soundly on the couch and a pillow over his head. He makes soft snores as he is preoccupied with his dream. In front of me is an empty cup of tea, from which was used repeatedly for several days. It is out of place, though, with its depiction of bows and candycanes. Next to it are the books, papers, pens, planners, and dice of our on-going D&D game. Collectively, we each have reached Level 6. Also congregating with these are a couple bags of mostly-empty candy, for which I am beginning to regret.
We have no lights overhead, so the one in the kitchen stays on almost always. There is a fan blowing in the direction of my friend, which is necessary because we still have not gotten the air conditioner fixed after a month or more. Today, they say, is the day they will try to fix it. I can only speculate delay, which is the norm here, but maybe chance will bring thought into action this time.
Birds chirp, and greet the day, as dawn goes to noon and the moment-pictures fade...
As I lay and close my eyes to drift soundly to sleep.
