Pep's Birthday Surprise Review
Putt-Putt and Pep's BIG snooze fest!
Another Junior Stinker from Atari, came out along with 'Life Is Rough when You Loose Your Stuff!'.
Like with 'Pajama Sam 4', this is EVEN worse than that game. We still have the painfully long, boring conversations like before, we still have the same, wonky lip-synching, what is worsen is the clumsy-looking screens, and re-used closeups.
Also, it is reconized by many to be the last Junior Adventure ever maded. And it's also an bland and moronic way to end the 'Junior Adventures' series.
The graphics? Still neat. The animation is bastly an improvement over 'Pajama Sam 4', a few of the music looks dazzling, and Putt-Putt's voice is kinda okay...but the problems are...
...the lip-synching is still off and it's still wonkier than before, especially in the beginning scene, where Putt-Putt says his first painfully long line. The conversations and cut-scenes are even worse. Like in Life is Rough when You Loose Your Stuff!, the conversations and cutscenes will cause players to die out of boredom and sleep from beggining to end, especially the scene where P.P. is going to get the food supplies. The voice acting, save for Michelle Thornson, is not good. For example, Rover's voice sounded like Mickey Mouse, witch is unfitting for 'Putt-Putt' at the time. Also, all of the music is not preety good, because the fools at Atari decided to re-use the music from 'Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo'. The screens are clumsy-looking. Like the music, Atari decided to re-use the screens from OTHER Putt-Putt games! Including:
1. The outskirts at Putt-Putt's house (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
2. The Zoo outskirts (the only difference here is that the Zoo is been replaced with the Feed Supplies, from Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo)
3. The Cartown Speedway Ad sign (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race. The only difference: the ad from the Cartown Speedway had been replaced with a sign saying 'Welcome to Cartown'.)
4. Smokey's house (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
5. Rover's Ice-Cream Kiosk (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
6. The 'Honk-the-Horn' cave (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
7. Toreble's farm (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
8. Outback Al's Zoo Kiosk (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
9. Mr. Baldini's Grocery Store! (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
10. Unknown place (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
11. Mrs. Widget's Toy Store (from various Putt-Putt games)
12. The Cartown Library (from Putt-Putt Enters the Race)
13. Putt-Putt's closeup (from Putt-Putt Travels Through Time)
Also, do you know that Atari just botched a classic Humongous game from 1993? That's right! They decided to botch Fatty Bear! This formula DOESN'T fit Putt-Putt at all! Also, you can change Putt-Putt's color in this game via magic wands, but when you change his color, he turns back to his trademark purple color imediatley! The dorks at Atari decided for players to NOT change his color! Ridiculous!
You done it again, Atari! You've botched up Putt-Putt, Pep, birthdays and Fatty Bear! For shame!
In overall, where's the goofiness? Where's the wit? Where's the charm? This game is not good. Wonky lip-synching, a dissapointing song, not-very-good voice acting, you can't change Putt-Putt's color, and, just like with 'Life is Rough when you Loose your Stuff!', do NOT play this game.
