The Time GoldenEye Was Almost HD [Edited]
It seems recently someone has unearthed some unfinished builds of an HD re-skin of GoldenEye 007 for the Xbox 360. Sad that this game never came to see the light, but there's plenty of logical reasons for it, licensing and actor likenesses and whatnot.
Seems to be similar to its sister game Perfect Dark, which did see an HD port on the Xbox Arcade in 2010, and I have a hunch this predates it. Could even have been shelved in favor of the GoldenEye Reloaded game by Activision. Much like Perfect Dark this features updated textures and backgrounds, though the 3D models are all the same, along with online functionality. Unlike Perfect Dark though, it offers the ability to switch between original and HD graphics on the fly, kinda like Halo Anniversary.
How cool would it be if Microsoft Game Studios/Rare/whoever did the Perfect Dark port dusted this off, finished the game, and patched it into Rare Replay as a special 20th anniversary update? The demand is definitely there to see this game come to light.
[EDIT] I did some sleuthing around and I guess it was a dispute between Microsoft and Nintendo over the rights to the game that killed it. A damn shame, especially since Nintendo will likely never do anything with it anyway.
