Camera died.

tldr; camera died, getting new one.
My D300 cannot be repaired. It's got the same issues my D200 had when the lens mount wore out >.> Unfortunately for my D300, Nikon says that it no longer has spare parts for it.
On the flip side, they offered to exchange the D300 for a new, warrantied D500 at a pretty good discount, and after figuring out the amortization of my various cameras - my D300 costs me just under 22 CAD a month for the 7 years I've had it - and decided that sure, I can justify that.
Really looking forward to using the new focusing system as well as a new sensor with awesome dynamic range! This should really help with indoor shots.
There are two things I don't like about the D500 though
- No onboard flash. This means the camera can no longer be the CLS master for off-shoe flash photography >.>
- 20 megapixels?! Please. I'd rather have half of them, with larger light-catching pixels. The largest I've printed is A3, and that came out perfectly fine on 10 megapixels.
Storage - The D500 has dual card slots, which is interesting - QXD and SD. This does mean that my entire travel storage system is now mostly useless as my portable HDD only takes CF/SD. I'm definitely not going to be using SD, as the performance of QXD is simply amazing.
Can't wait! It arrives in 3 weeks, or so the Nikon techs say :)
Still writing, and working away on hobbies. Gotta keep moving forward!

new technology is always nice! shame about your old camera though!

Yeah, it's been with me for so long, it's unfortunate that age caught up to it. Oh well :(
