Thank you. I volunteered some time ago to assist in watching one of the rooms without much formal programming. It's nicknamed the "Zoo" and is intended to be a hang-out space with tables, on the main function floor of the hotel. Sketching might happen. And there is Spontoon art to ink.

That sounds so awesome. I have never been to a con and know zero comic fans in the flesh, my brother excepted. I hope you have a great time, and perhaps sell some art?

Yet another convention I will not be attending and not by choice, all my credit went to Colorado in July attending my wife's business convention. No anthro conventions but I'll be at Pax South next year, already have the tickets. Maybe an anthro convention in Texas as well in '17.

Seriously, if you have a trip in mind and want to get away from it all a few days I strongly suggest either Mesa Verde or Keystone. Keystone has amenities and is expensive, Mesa Verde as a very tight two lane road (anything over 16' long is a no-go) with no phone, wi-fi or even a telephone in the rooms. You get a real brass key, real glass glasses to drink out of and in both cases, if the sky is clear a most impressive view of the universe.

The Colorado trip does sound fun. Does the Mesa Verde hotel (motel?) have those old hotel 12-foot tall ceilings? The brass key sounds great.

Pax South (gaming core?) is likely to be very fun. A Texas anthro-con could be very fun, too.

I am sure that there is one, however I am unaware of any. Austin is about as far as I can travel right now as I am having pain from both thigh muscles. This did not happen with the first spinal operation so I will need to talk to a doctor about it. Exercise is not helping so far.

Wishing you comfortable. All I can think of is that the spine re-alignment that you have surgically may take months of re-purposing for many of your back and leg muscles? (Am I channeling a Krupmark Island linament sales-fur here?)

More like a Cranium Island Snake oil salesman. I 'popped' my back last night (lay down, place hand on hip and PUSH both ways) and something went Berrrsssitttt Pain has dropped a great deal, give me a week, this might even turn into an important medical paper.

More importantly I spent last night working on stories, more work in one night than I have done in 23 months. I still can't travel much, the trip to HEB, local mass food supermarket, was pretty much my limit but I am getting better.

It would be nice to have a local furry con, but the one in Toronto is so costume-oriented that it holds no interest for me. Everyone seems too young, also. The talk about Pokemon and Sonic the way I might have talked about Tiny Toons or Rocky & Bullwinkle in "The Good Old Days." But the new stuff is just souless, commercial crap to me, so what can I say to them?

Also... I don't really care about animals all that much. I like them well enough, but in a mundane way ... the way I like shoes, cake mixes and cameras.

I hear what you're saying. There has to be people with 'cartooner' sensibilities somewhere in the Toronto regional fur-fans. Or maybe an alt-press, alt-cartooner, alt-zine convention in the Toronto area? Cartoon-aligned fans & pros will see your skills and savvy instantly.

Never heard of such. There is an anime con that I hear has broadened out somewhat, and there may or may not be a separate media con. There's a broad based SF con and usually one that's narrow based ... the only one I'm likely to attend. Even then, I've skipped it the last few years because of the difficulty of getting there. I can do it, but then I'm more or less trapped there while the chair recharges, and the hotel is not a good one for getting around it. And then there's the $60 membership fee, not to be sneezed at. There are ways around that, by buying a one day pass, for instance, of buying early ... that's still probably $35 or $40 for a con I've been to (the first 3 or 4 years) and where I've made no new connections.

Any con these days is going to cost $40 or more at the door, even for one day. You don't want to find yourself confronted by the same generation gap.

Hmmm... I wonder if this is a good time to recommend senior-citizens discounts?

Believe it or not, I had no idea it was this weekend. As such, I might not be able to make it since I have other commitments this weekend. Hopefully, I can swing by.
