New Job
So, I finally have a job now, although it's not at all what I was expecting. I'm a sales associate for Homesafe Security, a GE (General Electric, for those that don't know) home security system dealer. It was actually pretty funny how I got the job. I was sitting on my laptop filling out yet another crappy cashier position application, when my cellphone started ringing. Now, I've been having problems with some ass giving out my cellphone number as his number repeatedly, so I've gotten to the point where I start to just hang up instantly. But I decided "You know, I'm going to listen to this." And the guy said "Hey, we'd like to have you in for an interview." And the next thing I know, I'm in orientation and training for my new job.
Unfortunately, since it is door to door selling, it's commission based pay, but it's high pay. $200 US for every sale, and up to $1500 in monthly bonus every month. Plus, after 90 days, I'm being considered for management, and according to the branch manager, it's VERY likely that I'll get the position.
It's pretty cool, I never considered door to door sales during my job hunt, but i's really more fun than it seems from the outside. It's good exercise, and you do meet some interesting people (as well as some "interesting" people...), and my coworkers are a lot of fun to chat with. In fact, the guy I was shadowing yesterday said that there's been plenty of times when he's been invited in by people for lunch or beers. In fact, he actually got invited to an actual 3 course meal before. You get a lot of "no's", but you just let them roll off your back and keep going with a smile on your face. If I play my cards right, I can actually start making a six-figure salary out of this job.
Really, this job has done loads to help me with the recent bout of depression that I've been going through, and it's given me at least a little bit of hope, something which I had completely run out of before. I'm finally starting to get back to my happy, smiling self.
