FA notes
So there's a whole lot of notes piling up that I cannot catch up with. There's gotta be a better way.
In addition, I'm getting far too much garbage notes. A lot from people who are expecting free art, or from people who are simply rude as hell. Mostly both at the same time. The privacy allows for far too much... bullshit. So I'm strongly considering ditching the note system altogether.
If you want a commission, I'll figure something out. Something a bit more public so the complete antisocial dregs of society are hopefully scared off by the blinding light of civilized public interaction. Right now FA Notes are just bumming me out and draining my motivation.
I know a lot of you are great, and deserve my best effort. But I need something that can help me focus on more of you nicer people. Nice people deserve my attention and hard work.
I'm trying to get over my severe upload anxiety in regards to everything internet related. I spend so much time AFK that it's harming my work. Right now I need more friendly people to interact with. But it's unfortunately so hard to not associate FA with stress and rudeness for the time being. I'm hoping this journal can help change that.
Here's a few other places I will try to make more regular uploads on.
Streams should continue this Monday.

On another note, if i may drop suggestion, a lot of people use pre-made forms for commissions or even purely comments for simple commissions. E-mails might work, but in essence, i suppose those will have the same effect. c:
In all seriousness, i do hope you get a break! Its weird to even imagine that you get notes asking for free art from the get go. I mean.. how do you even phrase that as the one asking. Its just plain weird.
But asking for free art is more like, "Hey, Joe, while you're here you mind building me some new cabinets for my kitchen? Thanks." Even if Joe does woodworking as a hobby and not a job, it's still a significant imposition.
People need to wait until someone offers them free art. Do not ask for it. The more they ask, the less likely it is to be offered. To anybody.
Burn the notes system to the ground.
Taking on new commissions? Use a form. If you're in the Google ecosystem, Google Forms makes it stupendously easy.
Use email instead of notes: SLA of damn near every email provider is higher than FA at any time of the year.
Again, if you're in the Google ecosystem for email, consider the use of plus signs to auto-sort emails: If your email address is rob.dhole@gmail.com, you can forcibly bin emails into a separate label for commissions by having them send to rob.dhole+commissions@gmail.com, as example.
There're other ways to sort, depending on what you have access to.
But by turning down the noise to clear up that signal, I think it'll help. :)
If you create a form or a system that can automate things via something like a checkbox with the label "$0" or even a text box that'll recognize a 0 or something under your minimum, you can effectively filter out the ones that really don't want to pay for your skills.
That's all I'm adding, I might be parroting with less substance but I wanted to add my two cents.
and out of curiosity, is the next stream gonna be a YCH?
Hope things get better.
Anybody asks you for free art ~ just delete it like I do (unless you feel like being abusive to a beggar at that exact moment.)
Just put up disclaimers on your profile that say `NO FREE ART` AND `COMMISSION STATUS: See Featured Journal` and then you'll be in the clear to tell people to go fuck themselves if they can't read. :D
I've had good luck with e-mails before and I'm this close to going back to it - having recently taken on a bunch of clients at once, I've come to despise FA's note system.. Perhaps a public e-mail for commission inquiries would serve you well. That's what I'll most likely be doing, myself. I'll let you know if I have any success with it, and I hope you're able to find a solution that works for you!
seriously though..... people are entitled.
For one of the pages I work for as english translator there's a new weird and creepy noter every week. Couple of the "hey." ones that take three responses to get to the point, and a couple of the free art asks, but mostly a new person every week asking gross personal questions, making really realy innapropriate comments about their enjoyment of the comic or talking about what they want to do to the characters with their characters.
There's a reason why I don't update my FA much anymore.
