2017: MFF vs AC
Heya all.
So I swore off furrycons awhile ago*, though I sorta wouldn't have minded a "well, maybe one last time" deal. Plus most of you never met teh hubby. FC is the only one I still attend simply because it's easy to get to, but frankly, we like the Bay Area, and I should make more of an effort to go there beyond cons. This upcoming January, I may have some scheduling conflicts, so there's a chance I may skip FC entirely this year (sorry!) which could leave some other con on the table...
Not trying to start a popularity contest here, but do you attend AC or MFF? (the ONLY serious options right now due to my job schedule...ie FWA and Furry Fiesta are out. BLFC MIGHT be an option, but it's local enough that it won't require as much preplanning). Either? Both? It's been something like six years since I went to either, and I know some people have changed their preferences in the meantime...AC is too crowded, MFF moved to December, yadda yadda.
This won't 100% make the decision, but it'll certainly help! Thx!
*Eh, suppose I'm beyond caring now, I can go into this publicly. Very bitter that I was never invited to be a GOH at a con. It may sound petty, but literally every other comparable furry webcomic artist at the time got the invite (especially ALL the other ones on Keenspot--'memba that?); and I know damn well the Class Menagerie was considered an early springboard to the fandom for many people, especially being a 100% clean example at the time. So yeah, I considered it a big FU, hence no longer supporting cons after years of attendance.

FA+

Haven't fully ruled out FC yet, but duly noted... sniffle.
and i would love to see you hubby again to chat more with the two of you.
ESPECIALLY now that i know the drunk state lol
It's just I really admire you!
I plan on going to Anthrocon 2017 next year. Every year keeps getting better and better.
Lots of people, but very open hotel and a light rail nearby to easily explore the city. :3
Never been to AC, but I've heard that the culture of Pittsburgh during the con is very open and accepting of the community.
That sucks to hear you were never invited as a GOH. :O
Hopefully this is rectified in the near future. ^^
AC is definitely like that, though it's probably doubled since I last went.
Thankee... but I am no longer expecting it since I'm not really making much content here anymore.
MCwha? *checks* Oh! Yeah, definitely not possible so it's been off my radar.
But it would be awesome to see you and Dev again :3
I hurts me to say this but I like AC better, but I love big crowds and lots of people.....
Huh, interesting. I don't, but no denying it's a good way to meet lotsa folks!
It was nice meeting you at FC15 though, ^^
Good luck to ya tho! And yep, was fun XD
Yeah, count me amongst TCM early converts. That and, like, early 90s cartoons. But yeah, I'm blaming you for some of this mess.
Heh! I gracefully accept it
Your legacy is locked in.
I really missed you seeing you at CaliFur though.
Yeah, just too many...issues I've heard about ^ ^;;
It USED to be in November before they moved it to December.
AC is VERY spread out which makes things hard. MFF on the other hand is fairly centralized.
I can't remember if I ever had a serious dealer table at MFF, I think I mostly sold at AC and FC and tried to go to MFF just for fun.
MFF is a (large) hotel con, the way AC used to be. The hotel is very nice with a large, open 2-story atrium with balcony.
Anthrocon takes place in the huge David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
What this means is that hotel cons are more centered on interpersonal meetings. The Lawrence convention center is huge with the Dealer's room being only one of the three basketball arena-sized halls facing the "front" of the building (facing the river), with the meeting rooms in the "back" along with hotel access (a separate building connected by walkways, halls and elevators).
In the Lawrence, the place is so large you can almost go about your business and never meet with the same person twice, if that's what you want. You spend quite a bit of time moving from one place to another, and hanging out in the connecting halls is not that common. At MFF, you will almost constantly come across some of the same folk in the atrium and public spaces and maybe strike up a conversation.
Now, coming from the fact that I was a vendor for 10 years, I see things differently. Vending is hard work but people come to speak and connect with you, making it constantly exciting and interesting (you would be a hit vending @ AC, I'm sure). Since I'm used to that, I hope and look for that as only an attendee and hotel cons seem to give me more of that due to restriction of space. I go to Anthrocon for the planned activities, I go to hotel cons for the people (generalized).
YMMV of course.
Oh, right, they expanded AC even more too. Though the thing I liked about that most was the Zoo--all cons have a common area, but the Zoo seemed the most social (and with the longest hours) for artists, but not sure how that works now.
I was vending for almost all my early cons, especially when selling i.s.o...and there's a reason I don't do it anymore XD
Now that that admission is out of the way... Mwahaha! Ropes, chains and lube, damnit!
I don't remember MFF having much of a Zoo but FurFright / Furpocolypse has a very good Zoo, I've met and befriended some great furs and artists there! Good times had by all, and the Rocky Horror viewing always makes me laugh, and shake my head, by insulting my intelligence (I'm not a Rocky Horror fan, but people watching during the show is always good fun!).
We should start a petition to remedy your plight!
And thankee muchly, I appreciate the sentiment but I honestly don't expect it anymore, especially since I'm not generating much content now ^ ^;;
Huh, how long have you been going? Wish I'd run into you there
I think I've been going for about 7 or so years, give or take a few years I've missed. If you go, I'd TOTALLY want to meet up witcha!
Anyways, if you do go, hope our paths cross!
Though kinda surprised you've never done AC...
Yeah, admittedly I know more locals to MFF, but I might actually STAY at the con this time...
