Big-ass Blackout
So yesterday at around 2:30 PM, the island of Puerto Rico was struck with a blackout. The whole entire island! I don't remember it ever happening before outside of a hurricane. There was a fire at a power plant and it somehow took out the electricity on the entire island. It is currently almost 24 hours after the fact and still nothing. Only reason I'm writing this is cause Dad finally got our emergency generator to work, so I can catch up on stuff online.
It had been said that it would take less than 12 hours to restore power, and we see now that they were full of shit. Apparently they're focusing mainly on the capital of the island and the cities around it and everything else will come later, because why the fuck not? It may well be 48 hours or more with no electricity for most of the island. That means some businesses will be unable to open their doors and their merchandise may get ruined (namely ice cream parlors and the like), not to mention all the people having to make do with flashlights, lanterns or candles and the stuff on their fridges and freezers getting ruined too. And have I mentioned the boredom? Holy fuck, the boredom. I'm lucky I have comic books and my portable DVD player, which I'm recharging now after using last night.
So, yeah, this event is another reason why I'm not exactly fond of my homeland.
ETA: So apparently every time they have tried fixing this blackout problem today has met with failure and they have no idea what to do to fix it. Whole island may be without electricity up until Saturday or Sunday, they say. Wow. Just.... wow...
