What are the differences between a mare and a stallion looks wise ....besides the gender bits. Im being told there is no difference that a mare and a stallion both look the same which I find hard to believe.

Your friend sounds like they haven't met many mature studs. :P
I see it most often in some Thoroughbreds and halter-bred stock horses.
Some Mustangs get stud-necks too.
mid distance you see slightly sharper features on the face (jaw points) on stallions are slight more pronounced but not a lot.
other than that, equines are pretty generically shaped to help hide who's who in the herd
Again, it varies quite a bit from breed to breed, and even among individuals, but this is what I've observed over years of seeing them in person. The differences are very minute, but they're there!
The most noticeable differences are what's mentioned above, with stallions often having more of a crest and stronger jaws, and mares being a little more streamlined. (again, that can vary, though, with a number of factors)
