Magic/cursed objects - hmm...how about being sealed in the object yourself?
So for example...the imprisoned spirit would be walking around in your body, while you're trapped in the pendant resting on what used to be your furry chest, watching 'yourself'...

My initial thoughts involve mind transferring or through corruption/purification. Can even project a false reality to deceive the individual into acting how you please (it's different than VR imo, but that's one simple way to do it). Course there are many ways to do it I suppose

Best way I say "false reality" is a projection actually. Look up Fate/Zero or the Fate/Stay anime for "reality marble" or even Archer's Noble Phantasm from Unlimited Blade Works. That'll give you an idea of what I mean lol

I kinda like the idea of an AI character swapping places with someone and trapping them in a computer.

Ooooh, I like this one. Gifting your body to an AI who's never had one before...go crazy with all the new sensations.
Perhaps trapped in a phone or digital accessory so you can see what your AI body's up to :3

Oh totally. The one who's in the computer should have access to all the internet. All the computer surveillance stuff! Able to observe anything, but not interact. Being in the computer isn't a prison. It's just a different kind of freedom. A CPU can do all kinds of things a brain can't.

Yet once you realize what you've lost in the jump to cyberspace, it's far too late. The matrix already has you. HAAHAHAA!

In that case, it's pretty much a win-win, isn't it?
For a organic being to have endless access to cyberspace is wonderful sensation in itself.
Perhaps spying on your former body through webcams, CCTVs, mobile phones...that's a pretty unique story perspective, I'd think :3
It could even be a symbiotic relationship of sorts where the AI and host regularly trade places.

Indeed, switching back and forth would give them each some perspective on their new way of experiencing the world. That could be really fun!

Mhhhhh else I could think of soul-invasion. Kind of like we imagine demonic possessions to work, but rather than taking over being just a voice in the back of the head. Kind of like daemons work in Warhammer 40k until they garner enough power to either overwhelm your body or actually materialize. So kind of a spirit invading your mind / body control from a higher plane of existence.

This could also very well work with dream manipulations. I.E. Imagine the same wet dream over and over and over again until you can't bear it anymore and make it cum (what a pun) to reality.

Hmm...so, the voice compels you to do something...and they gain power when you fulfill those urges - finally a full takeover when they accrue enough strength? :>

Usually they say "My mind to your mind, your thoughts to my thoughts" but in the video above Spoke digs for the truth in "The Undiscovered Country," aside from my geekyness of being a Trekkie this mind meld requires direct contact to the person to the face (as far as I've seen in Star Trek), however their have been a few cases where the mind meld doesn't need direct contact if the individual is very Psychicly sensitive.

For your drawings you can still mind meld just by touching their shoulder or for a more direct face to face way I'll leave that up to you.

But I'm sure you'll find a way to be more creative with this form of mind control X3

Also what about plant's that give off mind control chemicals through the air or just their branches touching their intended victims, just some more ideas for you to play around with.

It's very basic, but I'm gonna say an old-fashioned body swap. You have to watch your old body walk away, and that's just the beginning- you now have to adjust to this new one, with all the baggage- how you're perceived, others' opinions, all those evil objects just lying around the lair~

I mean, mind control is best when the protag doesn't even realize what's happening x)

Also, I'd really like to +1 the being trapped in a cursed object that was mentioned in the first comment. Everything about that is ace!

I'm a big fan of mind control where the person is sort of made willing before it really starts. I've had hard times explaining but Travis knows what I mean pretty well, the little demon. As far as ways of doing it? Hrmm..I really like the idea of bringing someone into the right state before they simply give in - Either teasing or relaxing them into obedience.

Goo/latex tff'd versions of the character to take them over is also lovely.
Or getting egg'd and slowly hypnotized through abusing and enforcing the instincts that come to play with preg stuff.

Personally I kinda like the Mind Control of the a Dominant creature basically playing with the emotions of the one he is trying to manipulate. Not neccesarily from a villain either x'3 I like the kind of character who are capable if breaking and manipulating the will of others with mere words rather than any magical/scientific help, Although the help of some mezmerizing yet not intrinsically hypnotic eyes/demeanor would help as well~
