Got any tips for writing smut?

Writing smut is like writing anything else. Depends on good characters, buildup, and endings that pay off. A few things though...

Write things that get your dick hard. This method at least works for me. :D;;; But if I'm not excited by what I'm writing I doubt my reader will be either. Try to enjoy it yourself first and foremost!

Make sure the motivation to have sex in the first place makes logical sense. Too often I read porn where the characters jump right into bed with each other without a second thought, often in dangerous or tense situations where it wouldn't make sense to do so. There are plenty of ways around this, but if I the reader am scratching my head asking "Why would they do that??" then that eliminates some of the appeal.

Buildup and tension are hotter than straight out fucking. It's all about the delicious tension, that highwire act where you tease and tease and tease... Will they or won't they? Half-dressed is hotter than naked. Sneaking glances, a shot of hairy chest through an open vest, a glimpse of muscled buttock held--only for an instant!--before he pulls his towel back in place. Make the reader want the characters to have sex before they actually do.

ALL OF THE KINKS. WRITE KINKY STUFF! WRITE IT ALL!

Following on from the writing smut question above, I'm someone who writes a lot of extreme kinks but I can't seem to get spanking down.

Any tips on writing spanking?

Punishment. Discipline. It's hotter if you remove the sexual component (at least for me) and make it all about humiliation instead. Boners might happen, but the sexuality is sublimated. Lots of TALKING. Protesting, defiance, angry struggling. It's important that we don't ever feel sorry for the bottom. He should somehow have "earned it" (even if he doesn't think so) or, if the punishment is truly unfair, make sure that we the audience are delighting in his downfaull rather than feeling sympathy for his plight. The top can be sadistic or a traditionalist, or a heavy-handed guy who knows how to take care of the situation. But either way he is in charge, and by the end of the punishment the spankee knows it.

Lots of focus on the ass. Make the baring of the cheeks a big deal.

Other than that, writing a spanking is a lot like writing a sex scene really... lots of build up, a hot pounding, a climax (typically tears in this case rather than orgasm, though it could also be orgasm if the spanker decides to 'milk' his victim while punishing him) and then a cool-down period (corner time? spreading cream on punished cheeks?) How has the spanking changed the characters? Has their relationship altered? What will happen to them going forward?

Also, handprints are hot.

Why is spanking such a nonsexual thing for you? One would think it is, what with all the nudity and the boners and the meaty man asses.

Because I'm a nonsexual person. Sexuality makes no sense to me. It's intimidating, it's frightening. I've spanked in real life as an adult, and I don't get boners during them either giving or receiving. I barely get boners with my boyfriend who I've been seeing for a few weeks now, and I worry every day that that means there's something wrong with me.
