You do not have to be a mysoginistic, racist, etc etc to have voted for Trump. The problem becomes that you DID just vote one into the most powerful office in the nation.

It's like fire. You're chilly. You want a fire right now. A fire would make you happier. You don't go burning the things that make poison gasses while giving you the fire. Trump, while not the most poisonous person out there...is still quite poisonous. My hope is that we can manage to just get mild poisoning and not complete death from it while he's burning.

A better parallel would be chemotherapy. This cancer of rigged primaries and collusion between mass media and political parties has to be sent into remission. God willing our country is strong enough to survive the treatment until a more surgical solution can be applied.

Remember that Trump is president, not king. Trump will face opposition from every elite in the world, as well as the 49 Democratic and Independent senators as well as the many pro-NATO anti-Russia pro-immigration reform Republicans like John McCain and Lindsay Graham.
Because Trump is not king and won't build a wall or deport all Muslims, voters will very likely elect Democrats to the Senate and maybe even the House.
Also Trump isn't an ideologue. He has no actual ideology aside from what will make him win. He can be reasoned with. This makes him far better than Cruz, or his VP Pence, who have even worse ideas and an actual ideology.

On a positive note, we have legalized marijuana in Massachusetts and California, deposed the notorious cruel and racist Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and elected the first Latina senator (Nevada) and first LGBT governor (Oregon).
Finally, Trump doesn't have a mandate. He won the election by 3 electoral votes. And Clinton won the popular vote.

Oh, and we had a president who pushed big public works and economic populism but also hated refugees, allied with the Russians, and actually put people in concentration camps. Yet this president is overwhelmingly lauded by Progressives. His name? Franklin Roosevelt.

A repost of my reply on the entry you linked: If I would have seen this journal yesterday morning, it would have probably made no sense to me. I too lived on the conviction that Trump was a strong supporter of racism / sexism / discrimination and a complete clown. It literally felt as the end of the modern world had come until later in the evening... I labeled his win as a victory for racial supremacists and rapists and conservatives who want to steal our freedoms. Then I argued with several people about Trump being pure evil... and after several arguments, I actually became at least somewhat open to the idea that some things might have been misunderstood.

Just to be clear: I knew very well that the media is controlled by Hillary! However I still operated on the assumption that no matter how much they exaggerated his evils, they must be based on some irrefutable essence of truth. What helped me accept second thoughts was in part his victory speech: I was expecting him to go crazy after he won, and swear to crush all immigrants and god knows what other extreme thoughts... instead he behaved like what you would expect a sane and aware president to act.

Journals like this help to give me hope that I might be right. It still feels very weird to imagine that what I knew all these months was wrong, yet maybe this is all different from what so many of us knew. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I don't personally think it's the end of the world with him elected to be honest. I mean the mainstream media and people got themselves so overly hyped up making him a boogey man where as Hilary would be even worse and is more corrupted. I mean. Donald may be a bit of a wild card But I'd be willing to take my chance with him and it's a bit unfair to label Trump supporters racist and mysoginists as millions of african americans and latinos and women voted for him as I've been seeing these anti trump protesters rioting and blaming white people like it's there fault, ect ect.

I just wish people would just chill already and stop fighting, throwing insults at each other. Trump has yet to even take the oath and be in office and already people are acting like it's the end of the world with the uncertainty.

I usually vet people i watch for political bullshit, I appreciate the lack of politics and the neutral standpoint you take when you do make a comment
you obviously have your opinions so I appreciate that you dont act like a political messiah or expert and instead, in the one political post ive seen from you, you simply tried bring calmness and showed respect for others.

That's really the point I try to make. We really dont know much outside of what our divided political pundits tell us, which is all basically exaggerated bullshit and or distraction from a more pressing issue. It's really difficult to get to the real truth of anything anymore, and many truths that are exposed have context removed or details ignored so we cannot even tell the difference between good news and bad news. In the meantime I just want friends and the fandom at large to eventually learn to not get swept away in our highly irresponsible news media coverage that has taken root in today's culture. It's really starting to have a detrimental mental health effect on a lot of people. I don't even need people to agree with me on various topics. I just want our ability to have civil disagreements and sane discourse to return.

ive really started to distance myself from this community, i rarely comment, I just lurk these days. interacting with people is hard enough to begin with, all default furry drama was a pain and then everyone got political, left and right I look and when a comment isnt "nice art" or anything along those casual lines of interaction, most of what I see is hate and despair. I just want to casually hang out with friends again. seeing that people still exist who arent interested in all the drama to some degree reinvigorates my motivation to find friends in the community again. so again, thanks.
