America

Conflict is not my thing. I don't want any reason to be upset at any of you guys. I think you're all great, and I want to keep it that way, so i'll keep this short and not go into too many specifics.
America's broken, In a lot of very fundamental ways, Same with my country, same with a lot of countries. We think it's okay for all the wealth and power to be concentrated amongst a very small few, while people go without, we make arguments that there's not enough to go around, while, we punish people for jobs becoming more efficient and requiring less people, we think it's fine to ruin people's lives for amazingly petty reasons, we justify it, we lock people up and kill them for the most inane and idiotic reasons, entire sections of the population are starved of resources and punished for literally no reason other than hate.
The election was a shitty situation, I think the democrats fucked up in a major way, They ran a hawkish, corporate, establishment candidate at a time when the people who they expected to vote for them just cannot get excited about that, I think the Democratic party screwed up so badly that all of the leadership should be booted out, they should have to pay a price for this failure, You can't run a functional country with a right-wing party and a slightly less right-wing party, it just won't work. It was a colossal screwup.
I do hope Trump's presidency is good for you guys, I really do, There's a lot of people I care a lot about over there, and the vast majority of them are people that trump and his supporters rallied against, so I have a lot of doubts. But, i'd love to be wrong, please, americans, prove me wrong by acting like decent goddamn human beings to eachother, regardless of gender, race, class or religion.
Please stay safe, guys.

I would've loved to see Bernie vs. Trump to be honest, he's a much better and more respectable candidate than Hillary by several margins.
But yeah, Bernie vs Trump would have been preferable.

But the people freaking out over the election outcome really don't get how much power the president doesn't have. They're expecting mass deportations and witch hunts, and for major legislation that is impossible for a president to repeal to suddenly be taken away. Instead of accepting how things turned out, learning from it, and doing better, they're tantruming and rioting and showing the same malice that led to a Trump presidency in the first place.
The people on the other side aren't much better, though. Ignoring potential risks and going lax on scrutiny isn't doing any favors, and neither is shitting on people for voting differently than them. More than that, though, is the risk of reversing the social balance out of some retribution against all the assholes that have been trying to suppress speech and thought for the past few years, when shooting for fairness would do better for everyone.
The trend over here of tremendous hate being fired off across a severely politically segregated country is probably gonna get worse in the next few years, but there's always 2020 to turn it around. There are sill plenty of reasonable people that can turn stuff around.
If you watched the above, you'd see that. But hey, you're not the one that has to live in it, so I'm sure you don't really care about how to actually make things better.
The reality here is that people voted Trump because of people who act like you stripping them of all social and real capital for the past 4-5 years, indiscriminately, and falsely, screaming about bigotry when it was brought up. When a group calls every single person that disagrees with them a bigot, a racist, a sexist, an idiot, a monster, worthless, and they do that for several years, their targets come together to knock them down a peg or two, and they probably won't care what it takes to do it.
And our other candidate wasn't much better. She calls black people 'dirty niggers' in her emails (literally - she called Obama this more than once), after marching for and funding opposition to civil rights for colored people in the 60s, opposed LGBT equality until it was literally a crime to deny their equality, spending years in courts trying to keep their rights stripped, and is openly funded by organizations that execute women for speaking over men and sell preteen girls into sex slavery. It's not like most people were eager to vote for Trump; it's pretty universally accepted that people were trying to choose the lesser of two evils. Do you think that she would have been the right choice instead, given how she really acts? It's not an easy choice.
After all, I wrote in a damn meteor instead of picking one of them.
While I was at work today, I saw my coworkers (democrats) encouraging the riots. I myself went Green after I got all the facts during the primaries and throughout the general. If those poor bastards took the time to learn what I learned about what the Democrats did, it would turn their whole world upsidedown.
I just hope the anger can be put to use in forcing the system to change.
I too am looking to channel the anger into something productive and peaceful.
The primaries are good in theory, but, as this election cycle showed, far too prone to corruption. And that killed the blues' chances of winning.
And electoral college made plenty of sense before computers were a thing. It's a relic of the past now that really hurts more than it helps.
But the dude above is pretty accurate about people encouraging a ton of hate. We've got news reporters calling for assassinations and people cheering on as mobs beat people down and destroy communities blindly at this point. It's funny that the blues have trumpeted nonstop for years about how violent and hateful the reds are, then they turn around and do this.
On the bright side, though, Sanders is talking about taking the middle ground and actually compromising Trump on issues, so long as they're well-meaning. And with a lot of people still following and supporting him, the government will at least have a good shot at improving. This might just be a rocky start while people adjust to the fact that they're not getting their way.
No comment on the allegations of the DNC/Clinton Fdn. funding the riots like Mansini, but it is worth keeping an eye on, in case something develops. It's not impossible that a lot of these actions are being fueled by a small group of hateful people rather than the people actually being this way.
As well, the American military is primarily staffed by people from red states because they actually believe in patriotism and love of country. Meanwhile, people that praise social justice and burn the flag for attention move far the fuck away from minorities the moment they have the money to do so. The democrat and liberals in general are hypocritical as fuck. The corruption at the top is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their contempt for common people.
I'll be watching from the sidelines, I left and joined the Greens. Hopefully they make some wise decisions. Still, I have very little trust that the Democrats will create the change they need, the establishment is still to powerful and the corporate lobbyists are essentially the ones ruling the party, similar to the GOP, both are corporate influenced parties.
I need to take a trip to Australia at some point
Sounds like you guys have Ranked choice voting! Maine just passed that here in the states. I wanna do more research on their success and how it can be implemented elsewhere.
Sex Party are good! They recently got an euthanasia bill through, and they're campaigning for marijuana legalisation, they started off as lobbyists for the sex industry, but they're good progressive fighters! I handed out "How to vote" cards for them once, in my tiny little country town full of old conservative farmers (And a bunch of hippies), it was pretty entertaining.
