Hey guys it's been awhile, been busy with school, work and maintaining my close friendships, and been mostly thinking about what my future will hold. I got past the evaluation after 6 months on the new job with the library, with a perfect score, and now trying to apply for a position up for better pay and benefits. I got one more semester to go after fall semester in less than 3 weeks, basically going to do a math class, an elective class and a short seminar on the Nevada constitution and then I get my degree in May finally. After that, assuming that I can get a better job position, I'd probably be moving out of my parent's place with a couple choices, but more likely would move in with a close friend and hopefully be able to get a dog after I settle in.
Anyway...I need to stop looking at the news everyday, cause our dear president elect apparently is a immature manchild who can't take a joke or a criticism without him whining on the internet. I find it hugely unprofessional, and borderline authoritarian, in wanting to intimidate the media to stop saying bad things about him. For someone who advertised himself as anti-PC, he sure seems to want a safe space! Well he should know when being president there is no safe space and if we stay vigilant a few things can happen; 1.he'd quit, 2.he'd get impeached, 3. Hopefully those who voted for him will realized they're gambling the integrity of our democratic institutions, our economy, our healthcare, our national security to a guy who has a textbook narcissist and sociopathic personality, not to mention he seems to be wanting to run his businesses at he same time of wanting to president. Being president isn't a part time job for God's sake! And lately he bitched some more despite winning the election through the electoral college he's STILL not satisified that he didn't win the popular vote. So he makes a bullshit claim that they were 3 million illegal votes, which is not founded in fact, but it seems this year fewer people care about facts and demonize journalists, academics and intellectuals(Populist and authoritarian regimes always go after them first).
But from what I've learned, it seems attacking his personality does little to waver support for him, and many among the Republican and Democratic establishments that attacking Trump's rotten personality was no where near as effective as attacking his policy would've been, and I was surprised by this. I often look at this and am like...why would people vote for this awful man? But then again the Democrats if they nominated Bernie Sanders he would've beaten Trump by far, I think he had the populism, without the rotten personality and lack of morals(his record shows that), and not use people like Trump is currently doing. But anyway, it seems attacking Trump's personality only makes him stronger so I think the media should switch over to attacking his policies especially in terms of constitutionality of them.

So for 2016, I'd want us to remember Facts and the joy it gave us in helping us learn and grow, I learned so much from facts and how my thirst for knowledge inspired me to want to become an academic, a scholar, but it seems people seem to respecting them less nowadays but facts died so soon :c
I'd share that quote from Isaac Asimov again..
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
Isaac Asimov, Column in Newsweek (21 January 1980)

I have also become much more involved in actively monitoring news and keeping track of what's going on due to this, and to learn more about the political system of America. I became quickly demoralized for quite a few days once it sunk in and I learned just what kind of person got elected to presidency. Sure, the thoughts of even leaving can seem appealing, but people running from the results of this election I also feel would be only further handing victory to very harmful people and will only further serve their agenda. It's been very hard on me to see this happen, but the last thing I'm ever doing is letting people like Trump and his associates have their way without an effort to stop them in the future, and further educate people!
On a more personal note though, having had more opportunity to see what kind of a man you are as a Muslim, as I've never really had encountered any before, must say I find you a highly admirable example of how those of your walk should be welcomed in our society! That too, further showed me how dangerous prejudices are to humanity as a whole. Recent events have made so much a whole lot clearer to me now, let us hope and pray that becomes true of everyone else too in the future! I wish you the best, and hope that we can all do our part to get everyone to see things more clearly and make America, and the world a better place for all!
I also will be sure to keep a greater eye out for your journals, they seem interesting, and are also an example of how everyone can do a part in spreading knowledge!
This kinda illustrates why: http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-signs.....ing-president/
I too am keeping track of the news more myself, but we'll see what happens it's a lot of uncertainty. And me as a Muslim, well im pretty laid back and liberal, and I'm gay. :P
Yeah I usually like writing educational journals and thinking of a format id use, probably more citation and things like that, to back up what I say.
So I always like to hear different viewpoints of other people, so I end up checking out a lot of videos by youtuber and such. Here's one example and while I don't agree with everything he says (like the wall for example) or how he handled the video, he makes some good points.

So you're right a lot of facts were ignored in this election, but let's remember that it's from both sides and not the fact that trump won.
1.the wall: too expensive, too much red tape and it'll just make the problem worse(40% of undocumented immigrants simply came by air overstaying their visas), illegal immigration is actually lower now than it was a decade ago.
2. On undocumented immigrants and welfare, this is often full of half truths and leaving out key details, most of the public benefits that go to them are tiny compared to what residents are taking in, and most of that goes to their children. According to the US department of health and human services, $58 million of $57.8 billion of state spending in Texas goes to services for undocumented immigrants.
3. Saying that all undocumented immigrants are criminal is just plain stupid and overgeneralizing. According the WSJ and several others sources the crime rate of immigrants is actually lower than those born in the country.
However, I do agree we need immigration reform, because the way it is now it takes too much time and money which many people cannot afford.
Also with the drugs thing, we can fix that by ending the war on drugs, and just deporting undocumented immigrants would be a logistical nightmare, and it'll damage the local economy.
4. A so called Muslim ban is dumb, cause anyone can easily claim they're Atheist or whatever, and as far as I know the vetting system is pretty tense as it is, not to mention people killed by terrorists claiming to be Muslim are way way less than people killed by fellow Americans. You're way more likely to get killed by some crazy guy with a gun as thousands of Americans die each year from shootings.
His view that Islam is a dangerous ideology and incompatible with the west is also bullshit, our problem is really the extreme sects within the community(namely Wahabism/Salafism), and various other factors of why it's a problem now.
5. Trump I see as a person who's a narcissist and a sociopath, he may be rich, but he sure as shit doesn't have any humility. He had a history of ripping off workers and he makes exagerrated claims of his wealth which is often lower than he claims to be though either way he would be considered rich. But I would say, especially in what he's doing now and his backpeddling I highly doubt he'd care about the people he claims to care about.
6. To say he's not totally sexist, I would say he's definitely a womanizer, and I would say he is racist judging by his comments and his latest actions(like hiring a Brietbart guy and not condemning white nationalists like he would condemn Hamilton), it's either he really condones it, or he simply has no idea how to communicate.
7. To say he's brave and strong, I highly doubt it, his incredible thin skin gives everyone a headache and I highly doubt he'd be able to handle being president, a few little insults hurts his feelings now? Wait till he becomes president!
2. There seems to be a lot of half truths floating around with both sides, so I'll keep looking into this myself.
3. That was never said, so that was kinda stupid to overlook that. It is stated that THERE ARE criminals who do make through the border unchecked, but I also agree that the immigration laws need to be reformed, so this can no longer be as big of an issue as it is now.
4. Let's get one thing straight here. This is done to fix what is wrong with OUR system when vetting new immigrants. The video made that especially clear. Stopping them entirely may not be the best answer, but there also needs to be an alternative until our issue is resolved. Look you're right, there is a better change of being killed in a domestic crime, but take into fact that we don't have open borders like Europe does. Kinda the reason why we have far fewer terrorist attacks. I'm going based on the past and recent events in Europe.
I won't get the issue regarding religion, because I can already tell we're miles away on the topic regarding what he said. I go by what Martin Luther once said "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." I, myself judge by character. Color, gender, and religion are irrelevant to me. But I will always question the topic. Always.
5. Honestly, that sounds like more media nonsense. He's a dick yes, so was hillary, but that wasn't the reason why I didn't vote for her. I don't vote based on feelings.
6. Yeah I would say he is a womanizer too, but I really don't see him as a racist. Honestly, I just see him as a douche.
7. Eh I probably wouldn't agree either with that too, but I'm optimistic that we'll be fine. I think people are just overreacting honestly.
Is there a sheppy in your near future when you move out?
Personal attacks are kind of like hitting below the belt: there may be some truth to it, but it's still below the belt.
And like I said before, he spoke to anger and frustration, which should never be pandered to, but never ignored.
The article was a good read. As much as I am not a fan of his, I'm still waiting with optimism that something good will come from his presidency and that we went all go to Hell in a hand basket.
Also, a note to the Democrats, don't throw your popular guy under the bus. It's unbecoming.
Still the thing is, we know little of what he'll actually do mostly because he changes his opinion on a dime, however, I'm more scared of his cabinet and the people he's surrounding himself with who can persuade him to do their agenda.
And yes the Democrats majorly f*cked up by tossing Bernie under the bus who me and many other people supported.
His stance in the past has been somewhat hostile when it comes to Indian affairs, and his vested financial interests in certain controversial projects that will directly affect a number of our communities in an adverse manner, such as Keystone XL and Dakota Access almost certainly guarantees that they will be pushed through in spite of our legitimate concerns regarding these projects (both a conflict of interest and a direct violation of Treaty rights to reject these pipelines from crossing Unceded Treaty lands).
I don't claim to know what the future holds but it doesn't bode well for some of us.
well I hope I can to my first fur con(and maybe other cons like RTX in Austin)
