Update: for those who might want to know
As of 1130AM EST, our Bernie is taking the Long Nap. It's been a while since he was truly able to relax and it was gratifying, in a way, to see the sedative take hold. He passed in my wife's arms in the warmth of our wood stove and was buried in the catnip patch (which I thankfully dug before it snowed).
Huge thanks to Mountainside Mobile Veterinary for making his transition to Napping most peaceful and gentle. Because of their care, we already miss him but, there is less sadness and more relief at the end of his discomfort.
If any of you pet owners have access to a mobile veterinary service in your area, please take advantage of them. It is a little more expensive but, especially for end of life, it is worth it.
Art will progress soon-ish. Please stand by.

He is, and he was.

Mhm. As a person who just lost a pet himself, all we can do is make sure they live on in memory.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Bernie sounds like he was a great cat and your family gave him all the love and attention he could ever want.
