Why December is such a hard month to go through.....
December has always been the hardest month for many people... Veterans..LGBT both adult and youth... people with mental issues and visible disabilities. I want to talk about these very people that deal with so much and have lost so much.
I will start with the veterans. Many of the veterans often becomes recluses, anti-social because they battle so much pain.. so much loss. In turn, they turn away from family and friends. For them to have done so much for our country, they are alone for the holidays more often than you think. Thank a veteran.. Ask for stories.. Treat them to lunch.. Help them in some form of fashion. Sometimes.. a smile help them have a better week in the long run.
Secondly, I want to talk about the LGBT both adult and youth. I am part of this community. Many of us go through the harsh reality of deciding whether we should be ourselves or simply hide. Hiding ourselves often come with hidden pain and depression. You put up a fake self in order to hide your true self. I have done this so many times. But if we simply decide to be ourselves in public and privately, there are many risks of doing so. Friends may belittle or tell you that you are sick.. or you need a doctor. Family members who often don't understand what we want to do. They belittle, degrade, shame us. This happens often in public family events where the shame is greater. The greatest pain that a family can ever do.. especially a mother, father or a grandparent can do is hate who we are. To disown.. To cut us out of their lives. Tension of just simply being there at an event and have this done to you is unbearable. It is why it is so important to talk to your children and not degrade them for who they want to be. It is so important to talk to your family and friends. Learn their views. Negativity and Hatred can simply drive out your daughter.. your son.. your non-binary person. Because.. losing family is like losing your heart.. Losing the very being you are. Being alone for the holidays is never.. ever.. a good thing.
Finally, another community that I am so well versed in. Mental Issues and disabilities. People with these things are a gift. Never.. EVER a curse. They may be different mentally.. physically.. But they are a true gift. Not so long ago, we were considered outcast.. contagious as if we were sick like lepers. Now.. It is somewhat easier because people are opening their mind to learn. To see that the help is nearly gone and we need to be heard. We are still bullied.. Still treated like we are property.. that we aren't a person. We all bleed the same way. Let me tell you right now, it is a harsh reality when it comes to being who we are with our disabilities.. with our issues. But we do it.. not for the sake of you.. Not for the sake of our non-existant families.. but for ourselves. You want to help us out? Show us that we exist.. Show us that we are people.. Show us that we matter. Because so many kids with mental issues.. with physical disabilities are given up for adoption because families often don't want to deal with the hassle or that they aren't perfect.. or they are ugly because of a disability. Make a difference in our view. Show us that you care.
All in all.. Never.. ever let anyone feel like they are alone.. Let them know that they are loved no matter what. NO HATE! NO Disowning! Start showing that Love is the greater factor of life! Self-esteem is what needed for all of us. No self-esteem= hatred, pain, depression... Do we want that? NO!
