Is actually the Roman holiday Saturnalia. It was, like all other Christian holidays, co-opted by the Church to make it easier to convert other cultures (You've been worshiping our god all along and just didn't know it). Christmas is also Yule to Scandinavians and Celts. If this offends you then unwatch me.
