Upcoming Commissions
I'm going to be taking on new commissions in the next week or so, to be completed over the next couple of months. I was thinking of doing things a little bit differently this time; I noticed a few artists who just leave up an open web form and anyone is free to fill it out, as many people/ideas as they want, and the artist simply picks the ones they like the most out of the group and then close the web form when they're full.
I was THINKING I might give that a shot the next time I open. Seems to allow a decent amount of flexibility in the process! But it also sounds a little chaotic. I might be neck-deep in forms to read while people hopeful for commissions are left waiting and wondering if they got a slot. But on the other hand I'd be able to hand pick all my works for variety and things relevant to my interests!
Do any artists/commissioners out there have experience with this kind of system? I'd like to hear any thoughts related to handling commissions like this before I try it out, be they reviews, tips, or concerns.

The only thing I would recommend, which may be hard to do due to the possible amount of requests is trying to get back to people you plan on not following through on. Because for me, I wonder if my requests get through sometimes or if an artist actually wants to take me up on the request. When you have that direct contact of first come first serve you can usually decide then and there if you want to do the commission. But with forms you also don't have the issue as a commissioner who wants a piece but then every time the artist opens up slots they are taken within the first few minutes.
It has its pros and cons obviously, but I feel if proper communication is used, forms would be really useful especially for people who have a hard time grabbing a spot. Sorry if it's a bit long winded!
As for the method, first come first serve is a pain for those of us in different time zones -- even though I keep weird hours myself, sometimes I miss out. The other way also has the advantage that you can draw ideas/characters that appeal to you -- I've always found that if the artist is into what's been drawn, it comes out a lot better than if it's just "eh". Your form is actually the only one I've seen so far that asks about the personality of the character(s), which I think leads to a better feeling from your art.
Like the other guy said though, it's best to make it clear who you've picked and who you haven't in a reasonable span of time so everyone knows where they stand.
