2017 Resolutions (Long Post: Please Read)

Hey guys!
Hope y'all had a Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year!
Not gonna lie, 2016 was a butt of a year. It was rough, but now that 2017 here's to hoping that things will lighten up!
Oh boy, speaking of 2017 I have a lot of things planned for this year in terms of art. This year I want to be more progressive and try some new things out. I’m gonna make a list of what I have in store so below (it’s a lot so watch out xD ). I’ll highlight things that are important for commissioners/watcher the rest you can skim or skip if ya want since they’re mostly personal goals I want to keep record of! (Though it'd be nice if you read til the end ;u; )
1. ~*~(PLEASE READ)~*~ Updating How I Do Commissions
Last year I overworked myself pretty bad to the point that some drawings I’ve done I’m not too proud of. I felt like I could have done way better if wasn’t so overwhelmed.
So to help this, I decided to do commission slots. Every month I’ll be opening 4-5 slots and that’s it! I’ll focus my time and effort on those alone until they are completed. Reserved slots are a thing I’ll look into if this plan goes well, but aside from that I’m hoping this will help me become more manageable with my time and art quality. I won't be doing this until I finish what I have right now. Afterwards I'll post journals updating about the slots. Hoping to start this around April that way I have enough time to prep everything.
Another thing I want to fix, is how long it takes for me to do commissions. Due to how hectic my life is with constant babysitting and moving between my mother and grandmother’s home (it’s kinda complicated believe me) finishing commissions would take me months and I am determined to stop that. Once I get things set up I will have a schedule for when I work on commissions that way progress can be made and commissions are finished more quickly.
Last thing I want to fix is how I handle clients when taking commissions. I feel like I was too soft last year and because of that some clients took advantage of that and rushed me or low balled me. No more! I’m gonna be more assertive and professional about this. I really can’t afford to have others push me around on something I should have control over.
2. ~*~(PLEASE READ)~*~ Badges and Stuff!
I got a laminator for Christmas and have always wanted to try doing badges! They look so fun and I absolutely adore doing hands-on crafts. It’s a new area for me that I’m a bit unfamiliar with so I have a friend to help out until I get the hang of it! Already got a list of supplies I need to get, but need to get some money for it first. It’s so exciting for me that I can’t wait to start! I probably won’t be able to for a few months, but I’m hoping with this I can upgrade to buttons and other merch!
3. ~*~(PLEASE READ)~*~ The Future of BKI
I know I haven’t made an official post about this and I feel awful, but a while ago my good friend
RukaStephanieLuna and I started a collaboration team called Black Kat Illustrations (or BKI for short). There’s a few pieces we’ve done so far in my gallery, but basically I do sketch/line and Ruka does colour/shade. We started around 6 months ago and things have been so well for us. We’ve gotten lots of people interested in our work and it’s helped us financially too!
With how progressive things were, we’ve decided on taking things further for BKI. We plan on working on more YCH’s, commissions, and fanart (especially the fanart). At the moment we’re taking a break during January to take a breather. We’ll be back February for them Valentine’s art but then another break in March. Afterwards, that’s when things will go down! We’re super excited about this and have a bunch of stuffed planned for the future!
4. Personal Art
With how overwhelming things were last year, I had nearly no time to work on personal art. It’s a real bummer because I have so many ideas for projects and fanart that I really wanted to do but was too afraid to in case clients got mad I was goofing off and not working on their art. I actually had an Undertale webcomic I really wanted to do, but had to put that aside cuz of commissions. This year I want that to change! With how I’ll be handling my time, I’m hoping this year I’ll be able to do just that. There’s a lot of sketches just sitting on my desktop that I’m super excited to work on!
That’s about everything I wanted to discuss. Whew, it’s a lot to take in, but it’s an important resolution that I really am hoping to stick with this year. Last year was so depressing. This year I want to work hard and be more progressive so that it’ll be better! If you’ve read this all the way through thank you so much! I know it’s a lot of text, and I’m grateful that you took the time to read ;u;
