An open letter to Nintendo.
Dear Nintendo, I'm tired of being swindled. For the past ten years, I've blindly purchased your newest "next-gen" console without regard to it's future success. Next gen being one full generation behind of course. Well, you really screwed the pooch here, and this time, i won't be taken for a fool. Fool me once, shame on you.. fool me twice, shame on me, fool me thrice, shame on me again for being such a blind consumer.. fool me four times!? Yup, you managed to fool me four times... but the fifth ain't happening, and let me tell you why.
First time you fooled me? Well that's when I took the bait on the Wii, even when you threw us traditional gamers under the bus.. you fed us a few good titles, gave us a late release of twilight princess, than proceeded to shit out meaningless third party titles until the eventual death of the console. Yeah, you had some good games.. but I should have seen what was coming.
Second time you fooled me!? I spent 249$ on a handheld console with absolutely no launch titles worth playing.. no, loz-oot... you don't count.. the system suffered from awful battery life, small screen form factor, and laughable specs. But launch included the epic "Steel Diver" title.. Give me a break.
Third time you fooled me with the Wii U, an overpriced (349$) laughable console with no 3rd party support, lackluster gen-6 graphics... again I might add, and not a single launch title once more! How long can Nintendoland and ZombieU keep me cool.. not long enough.. I waited years before first-party titles began to come out, and the system had already taken two price cuts and included a game.. but here's the real kicker... we're finally getting a long overdue Zelda title at the end of the consoles life.
PS.. where the hell is Metroid!? Oh that's right, they had a terrible third party company put out a metroid soccer game called federation force for the 3DS.. more like federation farce.
And finally.. the fourth and final straw... after I bought a 3DSXL and swallowed my loss on the original 3DS, you release a new "new" 3DS with updated chipset and upgrades to the 3D mode. And what do we get from this?? A second analog nub which has been completely useless, and a chipset that only gets utilized for one game.. you heard me right, one.. single.. game.. No, the upgraded hardware doesn't pull the lag out of Pokémon battles in 3D.. it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever.. and it's been over a year now since the release of this handheld, once again... purchased at launch.. at full price.
And this is where the fifth time comes, and you won't fool me this time. Another lackluster lineup with a long overdue game, another high price tag, another set of graphics that are behind even the current generation, and another console that will be doomed to a lack of third party support.. not to mention a tablet form factor that will be going up against hundreds of thousands of cheap 1$ apps.
How long will it last Nintendo? I give you 5 more years before you merge with sega and become a software company. You're not getting my money this time, and it's a shame.. because I've been with you since I was old enough to blow in a game cartridge.
Good riddance.
