Documentary on Standing Rock & What Led to It
9 years ago
I've been posting and talking about the fight at Standing Rock for some time now and have been involved both from long distance work and actually went to Standing Rock last November. This is a (not an exaggeration) fight for our very livelihood being threatened, and just one of the endless acts of violence and removal from the US, who has always seen Indian lives as disposable. If you don't understand the context of all this, this documentary not just explains NoDAPL but also goes all the way back in history both by way of all the removals that were done and also the treaties that were signed that are directly involved in this dispute. Most importantly, it gives human faces to those directly affected, those suffering because of what this country is once again doing to Native people without remorse.

Bless LaDonna Brave Bull for doing this for all of us, and I have to paraphrase her words here. What did we do to deserve such devastation? Such relentless attack from the US? What did we do to deserve such destruction when we've served in almost every US war (and with the highest per capita). Why do our veterans come home to their lands being polluted and taken?
How much more must we just sit here and be quiet, and look pretty when this country has brought us so much illness and death. When can we prosper again? When can we be how we want to be? When can we be free again?

The first one, HB 1203, would literally make it okay for drivers to run over pedestrians without any legal consequences.

The second one, HCR 3017, is a thinly veiled disguise to gain direct access to resources located on tribal land.

These people have no honor. Their greed is boundless.

...but you won't like what you hear.
In my opinion, to justify the heinous acts of U.S. imperialism and ask why such has been brought upon your people and culture, can only be answered with a religious explanation--which is one of the reasons religions come to be, to explain the unexplainable. There is no rational explanation for these acts within our existence as beings on earth. So, as a buddhist, i will point to karma, cause and effect that transcends life and death. Why do the tibetans endure similar imperialism and destruction of their people and culture, which has led to many of them burning themselves to death? In a cosmic sense, from tibetan perspective, we are currently in the "degenerate age" which is one of the segments of a kalpa or aeon. There might be some consensus of this perspective with the scientific community which now thinks there is a black hole in center of our galaxy, which is why it has a spiral shape, and that the matter sucked into the black hole flies out of it at faster-than-light speed--so it seems everything in this universe is constantly being destroyed and recreated. Perhaps these destructive cosmic forces cause other destructive forces to manifest, like greed, arrogance, hatred, etc. which are the basis for supremacist and imperialist actions. That's not to say that we can't change these imperialist impositions during the course of our own life, because the situation here on earth is small compared to the long drawn out process of the galaxy. I want you to prosper and be free now.
