Some people tolerate it, other's have profile descriptions or a "pinned shout" stating it's unnecessary. Ultimately, it's up to you.

I know personally it drives me crazy since I rarely get notifications, and when I do, it's one of those "Thank you for the watch" things.

If you do feel inclined to do it, though, I always found it a little nicer be a bit more creative about it. I don't have any examples, though.
